[Aspects of the surgical treatment in plurivisceral echinococcosis--case report].

Hydatid disease remains endemic in many parts of the world, most notably the Mediterranean region, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and South America. Plurivisceral echinococcosis is defined as the concomitant or successive presence of hydatidosis in more than one internal organ. It has been noticed that the number of cases with multi-organ localizations and multiple cysts has increased in the last years.

Electronoptical aspects of the thyroid cold nodule.

The authors studied the ultrastructure of benign and malignant forms of the thyroid cold nodule. In the benign cold nodule the most striking feature was an irregular endoplasmic reticulum with large cisternae and scarce ribosomes, this meaning an impaired protein synthesis. Frequent lysosomes and phagolysosomes occurring in the apical zone of the cell were present.

Evolution of endemic goiter in the Valea Jiului area after 30 years of iodine prophylaxis.

After 30 years of iodine prophylaxis the incidence of goiter in the Valea Jiului area was reassessed. A number of 7,892 pupils aged 7-16 years were examined, of whom goiter was found in 32%. Before iodine prophylaxis started the incidence was 91.

Experimental studies concerning the mechanism of the thyroid-pineal interrelationship. I. The action of the pineal peptides on the thyroid gland.

Subcutaneous administration of a pineal polypeptide extract, "Crinofizin", to adult male Wistar rats having the thyroid function inhibited by prolonged administration of MTU, has important effects on both the whole organism (slightly correcting the weight increase rate, loweri g cholesterolemia) and the thyroid gland (reducing thyroid hyperplasia and playing a part in various stages of thyroid hormones metabolism). Thus under pineal treatment one can observe a clear tendency to return to the normal values of the thyroid parameters strongly modified by MTU, as RIC, intrathyroid proteic iodine, tissue thyroid hormones distribution, blood PBI and total T4. It appears that these effects of pineal peptides are induced directly on the thyroid and/or via the hypophyso-thyroid axis which they intercept and equilibrate (moderate).

Thyroid hormones homeostasis and TSH in autonomic thyroid nodule.

Thirty patients with autonomic thyroid nodules were studied. Thyroid scintigram, iodine uptake at 2 and 24 hrs, PBI, total thyroxine, serum T3(RIA), basal TSH and 30 minutes after TRH administration were performed. A lack of concordance was found between the clinical signs and the laboratory data.
