Background: A. ursinum is found to contain high levels of some beneficial phenolic and poly phenolic compounds were found to be effective in scavenging DPPH radicals and tyroinase inhibition. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-tyrosinase and antioxidant activity of three different extracts from the ultrasound-assisted method and their metal complexes from A.

Some quinolone derivatives demonstrated inhibitory potential against eukaryote topoismarase II and substantial dose-dependent cytotoxic potential against some cancerous cells. In present study, synthesis and cytotoxic activity evaluation of new series of N-pipearzinyl quinolones containing N-2-(furyl-2 or 3-yl)-2-(chlorobenzyloxyimino) ethyl moiety 7a-i have been studied.

In this work, an efficient strategy for the synthesis of novel homoisoflavonoids, [1,3]dioxolo[4,5-g]chromen-8-ones, was developed and all compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities on three breast cancer cell lines.
Methods: Our synthetic route started from benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-ol which was reacted with 3-bromopropanoic acid followed by the reaction of oxalyl chloride to afford 6,7-dihydro-8H-[1,3]dioxolo[4,5-g]chromen-8-one.

Objective(s): Chalcones and their rigid analogues represent an important class of small molecules having anticancer activities. Therefore, in this study the synthesis and cytotoxic activity of new 3-benzylidenchroman-4-ones were described as rigid chalcone analogues.
Materials And Methods: The reaction of resorcinol with 3-chloropropionic acid in the presence of CF3SO3H was afforded corresponding propiophenone.
Background And The Purpose Of The Study: Helicobacter pylori is recognized as the main cause of gastritis and gastroduodenal ulcers and classified as class 1 carcinogen pathogen. Different 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives bearing 5-nitroaryl moiety have been shown considerable anti- H. pylori activity.

Various steroidal derivatives containing substitution at position 16 have shown diversified pharmacological activities. In the present study, a new series of cytotoxic 16-(substituted benzylidene) derivatives of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) were synthesized and evaluated against three different cancer cell lines.

In the present study, we synthesized a new series of levofloxacin derivatives and evaluated their antibacterial activities.
Methods: The N-substituted analogs of levofloxacin 6a-j were prepared by nucleophilic reaction of N-desmethyl levofloxacin 11 with thienylethyl bromide derivatives 8 or 9.
PEGylation is a well-established technique utilized to overcome the problems related to the therapeutic applications of peptides and proteins. Reasons for the PEGylation of these biological macromolecules include reducing immunogenicity, proteolytic degradation and rapid clearance from blood circulation. Octreotide is an octapeptide analogue of naturally-occurred somatostatin.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA series of 5-substituted 1-methyl-4-nitro-1H-imidazole derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for in-vitro antibacterial activity against a panel of microorganisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Enterobacter aerogenes, and Helicobacter pylori using conventional agar dilution method. Among the test compounds, 1-methyl-4-nitro-5-(phenylsulfonyl)-1H-imidazole was the most potent against Gram-positive bacteria, with a MIC value of < or =8 microg/mL. All compounds showed no significant activity against Gram-negative bacteria at concentrations < or =64 microg/mL.

The growth inhibitory activities of 12 new compounds, namely N-[2-(5-chlorothiophen-2-yl)-2-oxoethyl] and N-[2-(5-chlorothiophen-2-yl)-2-oxyiminoethyl] piperazinyl quinolones 1-12 were determined against six cancer cell lines using MTT colorimetric assay. Preliminary screening showed that most of the new N-[2-(5-chlorothiophen-2-yl)ethyl]piperazinyl quinolones 4-12 containing (un)substituted oxime moiety showed significant cytotoxic activity and the modification of functionality on ethyl spacer produced a relatively minor change of activity.

In vitro antibacterial evaluation of the target compounds showed that N-[2-(thiophen-3-yl)ethyl] group attached to piperazine ring served as promising C-7 substituent for piperazinyl quinolone antibacterials. Among these derivatives, ciprofloxacin analogues, containing N-[2-(thiophen-3-yl)-2-hydroxyiminoethyl] or N-[2-(thiophen-3-yl)-2-methoxyiminoethyl] residue provided a high inhibition against all the tested Gram-positive organisms including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus comparable or superior with respect to the reference drugs norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA number of 7-piperazinylquinolones carrying a functionalized 2-(furan-3-yl)ethyl moiety attached to the piperazine ring have been synthesized and evaluated as antibacterial agents against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Most of the synthesized compounds exhibited significant antibacterial activity, and this activity can be modulated through the nature of the functionality on ethyl spacer attached to piperazine ring and the type of side chain present at the N-1 position of quinolone ring.
