The rare-earth monopnictide family is attracting an intense current interest driven by its unusual extreme magnetoresistance (XMR) property and the potential presence of topologically non-trivial surface states. The experimental observation of non-trivial surface states in this family of materials are not ubiquitous. Here, using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, magnetotransport, and parallel first-principles modeling, we examine the nature of electronic states in HoSb.

Our aim was to evaluate the prognostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based ratio of fetal lung volume (FLV) to fetal body volume (FBV) as a marker for development of chronic lung disease (CLD) in fetuses with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). FLV and FBV were measured and the individual FLV/FBV ratio was calculated in 132 fetuses. Diagnosis of CLD was established following prespecified criteria and graded into mild/moderate/severe if present.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different rotation angles in assessment of the contralateral lung volume by 3-dimensional (3D) sonography in comparison to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in fetuses with congenital diaphragmatic hernias.

Methods: A total of 126 measurements by 3D sonography and MRI were conducted in 81 patients between 18 and 39 weeks' gestation. The 3D sonographic volumes of the contralateral fetal lung were calculated by the rotational technique (virtual organ computer-aided analysis) with rotation angles of 6°, 15°, and 30°.

Skeletal X-ray survey is the established method of diagnosis in patients with multiple myeloma; however, whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (wb-MRI) has become an important additional tool. The aim of this study was to compare the different patterns of infiltration on conventional X-ray examinations (X-ray survey) with findings from wb-MRI to subsequently determine the influence of wb-MRI on therapy changes. In 60 patients with a mean age of 65.

An extreme-ultraviolet radiation source based on a xenon pinch plasma is discussed with respect to the demands on a radiation source for extreme-ultraviolet lithography. Operation of the discharge in a self-igniting-plasma mode and omitting a switch permits a very effective and low-inductive coupling of the electrically stored energy to the electrode system. The xenon plasma exhibits broadband emission characteristics that offer radiation near 11 and 13 nm.

An extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) radiation source near the 13-nm wavelength generated in a small (1.1 J) pinch plasma is presented. The ignition of the plasma occurs in a pseudosparklike electrode geometry, which allows for omitting a switch between the storage capacity and the electrode system and for low inductive coupling of the electrically stored energy to the plasma.

Temozolomide is an oral alkylating agent used in the treatment of metastatic melanoma. Commonly reported adverse effects of the drug include nausea and vomiting, constipation, headache, and fatigue, as well as myelosuppression, which may be dose limiting. Few reports have described dermatologic adverse effects such as rash and pruritus, and, to our knowledge, none have discussed the seriousness or extensiveness of the rash.

Sarcoidosis is a chronic multisystemic granulomatous disease of unknown origin, which can involve nearly all organs. In the case of an infrequent gastrointestinal tract involvement in systemic sarcoidosis, granulomas of the liver are most commonly described while isolated pancreatic sarcoid lesions are rarely seen. We report a case of systemic sarcoidosis with exclusive extrapulmonal involvement of the liver and the pancreas in a 71-year-old white man.

Objective: Previous studies determined the amount of epicardial fat by measuring the right ventricular epicardial fat thickness. However, it is not proven whether this one-dimensional method correlates well with the absolute amount of epicardial fat. In this prospective study, a new cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) method using the three-dimensional summation of slices method was introduced to assess the total amount of epicardial fat.

The aim of the present study was a detailed analysis of the regional cerebral blood flow and blood volume in patients with subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy (SAE) by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A group of 26 patients with SAE and a group of 16 age-matched healthy volunteers were examined. Using a well-established dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced MRI method, the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and blood volume (rCBV) were quantified for each subject in 12 different regions in the brain parenchyma.

Celiac trunk aneurysms are rare and can be treated with coil embolization. Migration of the coil with erosion of the arterial wall and further perforation to an extravascular structure, although infrequent, can occur. The authors describe a lethal aortogastric fistula in a patient who had undergone embolization of a celiac trunk aneurysm with tungsten coils and alcohol prolamine solution 10 years earlier.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the impact of postponing a specific fetal surgery (tracheal occlusion) on the survival of fetuses with a serious condition known as congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
  • Eight fetuses underwent the procedure between 29 and 32 weeks of pregnancy, with a focus on reducing risks associated with premature delivery and ensuring comprehensive postnatal care.
  • Results showed that 6 out of 8 fetuses survived after the surgery, suggesting that delaying the procedure can support lung development and improve survival chances for affected fetuses.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether quantitative changes in contrast enhancement (CE) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NC) are associated with histological signs of tumor regression and whether quantitative dynamic MRI (dMRI) is capable of accurately assessing preoperative tumor size compared to mammography (MG) and ultrasound (US).

Methods: Thirty-one patients with breast cancer underwent MRI before and after NC. Dynamic CE was measured using a turbo-FLASH sequence and quantified by a two-compartment model, where two parameters, k(ep) (distribution constant rate) and A (amplitude), were calculated and color mapped.
