Background: Perinatal depression affects 10-15% of mothers and approximately 5% of fathers. However, only a small number of affected individuals seek treatment. If left unrecognized and untreated, it can have negative long-term consequences for the family's health, leading to subsequent high costs.

Objective: Development of a generic model to visualize the potential for use and further development of registries to assess the suitability of the registry for a specific purpose.

Methods: Multi-stage community approach.

Results: The maturity model has 9 categories with 105 items.

Background: For children and adolescents with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), treatment that is not in adequate conformity with the guidelines can adversely affect both the course of disease and the patients' development. The targeted use of digital patient registries may improve real-life adherence to the recommendations of evidence-based guidelines.

Methods: In a cluster-randomized, controlled trial (DRKS00015505), treatment providers for the intervention group (IG) documented the treatment of children and adolescents with IBD in the CEDATA-GPGE patient registry; they received automated feedback on the data they entered and on potential deviations of the documented treatment from recommendations contained in the guidelines (care deficits).

Introduction: The aim of this study was to analyze discrepancies between self- and proxy-rated health-related quality of life (HRQoL), measured with the EuroQol 5 Dimension 5 Level survey (EQ-5D-5L), in people living with dementia (PlwD) and their caregivers on an individual response level.

Methods: EQ-5D-5L, sociodemographic and clinical data were obtained from baseline data of = 174 dyads of a cluster-randomized, controlled intervention trial. Self- and proxy-rated EQ-5D-5L health profiles were evaluated in terms of response distribution and agreement (weighted Kappa), and discrepancies in individual dimension level were analyzed using the Paretian Classification of Health Change (PCHC) as well as the presence and degree of inconsistencies between ratings.

Background: Determining unmet need patterns and associated factors in primary care can potentially specify assessment batteries and tailor interventions in dementia more efficiently.

Objective: To identify latent unmet healthcare need patterns and associated sociodemographic and clinical factors.

Methods: This Latent Class Analysis (LCA) includes n = 417 community-dwelling people living with dementia.

Background: In rural areas in Germany, the number of emergency departments with pediatric expertise decreases. Telemedicine solutions are used sporadically, but they lack certain parameters for assessing a child's health status, such as touch and smell. We tested and evaluated the implementation of a telemedical, cross-hospital urgency assessment in pediatric emergency rooms.

Background: The healthcare needs of People living with Dementia (PlwD) (such as Alzheimer's disease) are often unmet. Information about the needs of community-dwelling PlwD and their association with sociodemographic and clinical characteristics is needed to fill the knowledge gap regarding factors influencing unmet needs among PlwD and to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to develop tailored interventions.

Objective: To describe sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the InDePendent study population with particular reference to determinants of unmet needs.

Background: Due to unidentified geriatric needs, elderly patients have a higher risk for developing chronic conditions and acute medical complications. Early geriatric screenings and assessments help to identify geriatric needs. Holistic and coordinated therapeutic approaches addressing those needs maintain the independence of elderly patients and avoid adverse effects.

Background: Seeking help for severe depressive symptoms remains a major obstacle for particular groups within the general population. Value-related attitudes might contribute to this treatment gap, particularly in rural regions with a low density of psychiatric-psychotherapeutic services. We aimed to investigate narratives of socialization, value systems, and barriers of help-seeking to better understand social milieus at increased risk for underuse of psychiatric-psychotherapeutic services in a rural area in East Germany.

Introduction: Since 2015, the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA)'s Innovation Fund has been supporting projects in health services research and new health service models ("Neue Versorgungsformen", NVF). By the end of 2022, 211 projects in the NVF category had been funded. A key objective is the transfer of successful projects into standard care.

Background: The national Network Genomic Medicine (nNGM) Lung Cancer provides comprehensive and high-quality multiplex molecular diagnostics and standardized personalized treatment recommendation for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (aNSCLC) in Germany. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the nNGM precision medicine program in terms of overall survival (OS) using real-world data (RWD).

Methods: A historical nationwide cohort analysis of patients with aNSCLC and initial diagnosis between 04/2019 and 06/2020 was conducted to compare treatment and OS of patients with and without nNGM-participation.

Article Synopsis
  • Paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (PIBD) care is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach, including pediatric gastroenterologists, nutritional, and psychological services, yet there's a gap between recommended and actual care experienced by patients.
  • A study used a standardized questionnaire to assess healthcare service utilization and the influence of various factors (socio-demographic, geographic, and disease-related) on this usage among PIBD patients and their parents.
  • Results showed that while most patients and parents rely on their pediatric gastroenterologist as the main contact for care, many also seek additional services like nutritional counseling and psychological support, though a significant percentage (32%) reported not using any additional services.

Background: The consequences of economization and staff shortage in the German health care system strongly affect paediatric care structures, especially in rural regions. It is not known how closures of paediatric departments influence patient flows of surrounding hospitals. Here, we investigate the quantitative effects of closure of the paediatric department of a district hospital and the subsequent opening of an alternative inpatient service on the utilisation of inpatient and outpatient care services of the two neighboring hospitals and the emergency services of the region.

Introduction: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a general lockdown was enacted across Germany in March 2020. As a consequence, patients with mental health conditions received limited or no treatment in day hospitals and outpatient settings. To ensure continuity of care, the necessary technological preparations were made to enable the implementation of telemedical care via telephone or video conferencing, and this option was then used as much as possible.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review highlights the need for objective, technology-based tools to assess parent-child attachment in a more ecologically valid way than traditional methods, which can be intrusive and reactive.
  • The review analyzed 11,910 citations and identified 18 studies that employed various ecological momentary assessment (EMA) tools, including audio, video, diary, and sensory methods, each with distinct strengths.
  • While the psychometric properties of these EMA tools were generally strong, the review suggests that future research should investigate attachment complexities by considering diverse ethnic backgrounds, multiple caregivers, gender differences, and cognitive aspects in real-world settings.

Purpose: A setting-sensitive instrument for assessing Quality of Life (QoL) in Telemedicine (TM) was unavailable. To close this gap, a content-valid "add-on" measure was developed. In parallel, a brief index was derived featuring six items that summarise the main content of the multidimensional assessment.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of a routine screening for peripartum depression (PD) by gynecologists and pediatricians. In addition, it was investigated whether two separate Plus Questions (PQ) of the "EPDS-Plus" are valid for screening experiences of violence or a traumatic birth and whether they can be associated with symptoms of PD.

Methods: Using the EPDS-Plus the prevalence of PD was investigated in 5235 women.
