Objective: To assess by immunohistochemistry the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression in invasive ductal carcinoma and its possible correlation with the histological grade, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2), and other common immunohistochemical parameters (CD-34, Caspase-3, and CD8).
Methods: This was a retrospective pathology archive study including 50 female patients and was performed in Mustafa Kemal University, Hatay, and Sutcu Imam University, Kahraman Maras, Turkey. The routine hematoxylin-eosin staining and COX-2, iNOS, MMP-2, CD-34, CASP-3, and CD8 immunoperoxidase techniques were performed on paraffin-embedded tissues.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of propolis and mesalamine on experimental colitis in rats. Distal colitis was induced in rats by intracolonic instillation of 2 mL of 4% acetic acid. The animals were randomly assigned to 5 groups: group 1, control, (n=8); group 2, colitis, received no treatment (n=8); group 3, colitis+mesalamine, 2 mL once a day via an enema (n=8); group 4, colitis+propolis, 600 mg/kg once a day via intragastric lavage (n=8); and group 5, colitis+mesalamine+propolis for 1 wk (n=8).

Methods: We divided 30 male Wistar rats, weighing 300-350 g, randomly into three groups. The control group rats (n = 10) were subjected to laparotomy only; the I/R group (n = 10) rats were subjected to occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery for 45 min, followed by reperfusion for 60 min; and the IPC group (n = 10) rats were subjected to IPC, achieved with two cycles of 5 min ischemia and 5 min reperfusion immediately before the I/R, as in the I/R group.
Background And Objectives: The major complication of hydatid disease of the liver is intrabiliary rupture of the cyst. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome of patients with intrabiliary ruptured hydatid disease of the liver.
Method: Using a standardised data collection instrument, case records of patients who were operated on for hydatid disease of the liver diagnosed between January 1990 and December 2001 at Dicle University Hospital (DUH) were searched and 192 patients who had been operated for hydatid disease of the liver were detected.
