Thermal atomic layer deposition (TALD) and plasma atomic layer deposition (PALD) were used for producing thin NiO films from nickel(II) acetylacetonate Ni(acac), employing different oxidizing agents (deionized water HO, ozone O, and molecular oxygen O). The films were deposited at 300 °C (TALD) and 220 °C (PALD) over glass substrates; their physical and chemical properties were considerably influenced by the choice of oxidizing agents. In particular, ALD(HO) samples had a low growth per cycle (GPC) and a high concentration of defects.

We fabricated ultrathin metal - oxide - semiconductor (MOS) nanocapacitors using atomic layer deposition. The capacitors consist of a bilayer of Al2O3 and Y2O3 with a total thickness of ~10 nm, deposited on silicon substrate. The presence of the two materials, each slab being ~5 nm thick and uniform over a large area, was confirmed with Transmission Electron Microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

This research investigates the improvements of ozone (O) annealing on the optical and etching characteristics of TiO/AlO multilayer band-pass filters designed for potential optoelectronic applications. The band-pass filters were fabricated using atomic layer deposition (ALD), and their performance was systematically analyzed after the addition of O annealing at moderate temperatures (up to 300 °C). Results reveal that O annealing improves the optical transmittance of the multilayers by approximately 40% without significant spectral changes (∼6 nm).

Introduction: Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is well established for oligometastatic disease, and it is increasingly used to treat adrenal metastases.

Material And Methods: In this retrospective study we performed an analysis of 75 metastatic adrenal lesions in 64 patients with oligometastatic disease. According to the fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) maximum standardized uptake value (SUV) of adrenal metastases, patients were categorized into three groups: low, intermediate, and high SUVmax.

Selective UV sensitivity was observed in Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor structures with Si nanoclusters. Si nanocrystals and amorphous Si nanoparticles (a-Si NPs) were obtained by furnace annealing of SiO films with x = 1.15 for 60 min in N at 1000 and 700 °C, respectively.

Infections associated with bone implant prostheses are mainly related to bacterial contaminations. Recent investigations have suggested an important role of opportunistic fungal cells associated with non-responding antibacterial treatments. Thus, in order to evaluate the early Candida albicans (C.

We have provided evidence that the beneficial effect of super-oxidized water (SOW) disinfected Ti6Al4V-TiO nanotubes (NTs) can reduce bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. However, the need of antifungal nanostructured surfaces with osteoactive capabilities is an important goal that has been arising for dental implants (DI) applications. Thus, in the present study we isolated and tested the effects of Candida albicans (C.

Introduction: Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) has become the standard of care for squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (HNSCC). This report presents early outcomes of IMRT with concomitant chemotherapy in a community setting in New Zealand.

Methods: Forty-eight patients with stage III and IV advanced HNSCC received definitive treatment with IMRT.

Amorphous titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes (NTs) on Ti6Al4V alloy were synthesized by anodization using a commercially available super-oxidized water (SOW). The NT surfaces were sterilized by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and disinfected using SOW. The adhesion and cellular morphology of pig periosteal osteoblast (PPO) cells and the behavior of Staphylococcus aureus (S.

This study documents mouth opening and the incidence of and factors contributing to trismus (<35 mm mouth opening), as well as the associated impact on quality of life, following curative treatment for head and neck cancer. Patient demographics, cancer type and location, and treatments were documented. Mouth opening was measured at >6 months after treatment completion.

Inherent limitations in the suitability of drainage volumes for monitoring intraperitoneal fluid volume have resulted in the frequent use of indicator dilution techniques, but little attention has been given to confirming the adequacy of the estimates that volume markers provide. In a series of experimental exchanges in rats, volume estimates were compared based on the dilution of blue dextran and hemoglobin with direct collections of surgically exposed intraperitoneal fluid. Significant systematic and random errors in the indicator dilution volume estimates were observed.

In an effort to make initial clinical and functional assessment of the "dishabituation" from controlled ventilation by pressure-assisted ventilatory regiments, the authors studied 24 patients in whom valvular prosthesis operations had been performed and who required long-term artificial pulmonary ventilation. The dynamic changes and the parameters observed in one group of patients, designated as control, served as basis for the second, tested group. Half of the patients of the tested group passed through SIMV + Druckunterst and the other half--through Druckunterst-ventilatory regimens, which helped by pressure spontaneous breathing.

Various small and large molecules have been studied as osmotic agents to replace dextrose in peritoneal dialysis. Macromolecules are attractive because of their slow absorption from intraperitoneal solutions; however, it has been assumed that they are only marginally effective as osmotic agents unless they function as polyelectrolytes at physiological pH. In experimental exchanges conducted in rats we measured volume changes induced by Gelifundol (5.
