A two port surface acoustic wave (SAW) device was developed to be used for the control and excitation via spin waves (SW). The structure was manufactured using advanced nanolithography techniques, on GaN/Si, enabling fundamental Rayleigh interdigitated transducer (IDT) resonances in GHz frequency range. The ferromagnetic resonance of the magnetostrictive Ni/NiFeSi layer placed between the IDTs of the SAW device can be tuned to the SAW resonance frequency by magnetic fields.

This work was devoted to the first multi-parametric unitary comparative analysis of a selection of sintered piezoceramic materials synthesised by solid-state reactions, aiming to delineate the most promising biocompatible piezoelectric material, to be further implemented into macro-porous ceramic scaffolds fabricated by 3D printing technologies. The piezoceramics under scrutiny were: KNbO, LiNbO, LiTaO, BaTiO, Zr-doped BaTiO, and the (BaCa)(TiZr)O solid solution (BCTZ). The XRD analysis revealed the high crystallinity of all sintered ceramics, while the best densification was achieved for the BaTiO-based materials via conventional sintering.

The scope of this study consists of setting up of an integrated cost-effective sampling & laboratory analyses procedure which delineates sampling, sub-sampling and analytical uncertainties in case of fine-grained extractive waste deposits. This procedure is designed to support the decision makers towards fine-grained waste deposits upcycling and land reclamation. This procedure consists of a balanced replicated sampling design (BRSD) coupled with a three split levels ANOVA data processing.

Article Synopsis
  • Bi-phasic calcium phosphates (BCPs) are being researched as materials for bone graft substitutes, and cation-doping might enhance their effectiveness.
  • This study fabricated pure and magnesium (Mg) and strontium (Sr) doped BCP scaffolds using advanced techniques, and the results showed that all scaffold types performed similarly in promoting osteoblast cell growth, especially the ones doped with both Mg and Sr.
  • The findings revealed that the double doping of Mg and Sr increased the tricalcium phosphate/hydroxyapatite ratio, which may lead to a more effective release of therapeutic ions and better performance for future medical devices.

Background And Aims: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common condition present in daily practice with a wide range of clinical phenotypes. In this line, respiratory conditions may be associated with GERD. The Romanian Societies of Gastroenterology and Neurogastroenterology, in association with the Romanian Society of Pneumology, aimed to create a guideline regarding the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of respiratory conditions associated with GERD.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multisystem disease, and it is associated with numerous extra-hepatic manifestations or additional co-occurring diseases. The aim of the present review was the identification and management of the hematologic manifestations of NAFLD. One of the triggers is considered to be iron abnormalities.

Background And Aims: The nonpharmacological therapy in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is expanding rapidly. Practitioners and medical educators need to be aware of progress and changes in knowledge of this topic. The Romanian Society of Neurogastroenterology aimed to create guidelines based on best evidence on the use of nonpharmacological therapy in IBS.

Thirty-five years after it was first described, antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is unanimously recognized as a systemic autoimmune disease, a major acquired thrombophilia, which can affect any arterial or venous vascular territory, explaining the great diversity of clinical manifestations. The current classification criteria updated in the International Consensus Statement for Definite Antiphospholipid Syndrome from Sydney cannot explain alone the unpredictable evolution with thrombotic events of the patients diagnosed with APS. Although the link to genetics and epigenetics has not been clearly defined as in other autoimmune diseases, it is clear that a proper stratification of thrombotic risk in the era of personalized medicine must include classic biological markers (antiphospholipid antibodies, aPL), along with the already recognized phenotypes, non-conventional serological markers, and additional genetic risk factors for thrombosis.

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) was employed for estimation of intrinsic dielectric loss of ZrSnTiO (ZST) ceramics. Single-phase ZST dielectric resonators (DRs) with various synthesis parameters and, consequently, different extrinsic losses, were prepared by conventional ceramic technology. Even though the DRs exhibit a similar microstructure, their quality factor ( is the inverse of dielectric loss tangent) measured in microwave (MW) domain at 6 GHz varies between 2500 and 8400.

Background/aims: The Internet offers a lot of non-filtered medical information which may interfere with the patient-doctor relationship. The aim of the present study was to assess the influence of the Internet on the classical doctor-patient relationship in gastroenterological outpatient settings.

Materials And Methods: A multicenter study was conducted, including a representative sample selected from five major regional medical centers throughout Romania.

Background And Aims: Diverticular disease of the colon is a common clinical condition in developed countries, and is associated with significant (direct and indirect) economic burden. The aim of this Position Paper is to provide clinical guidance for appropriate definition, prevalence, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment of colonic diverticular disease.

Methods: A working group of recognized experts established by the Board of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (RSGH) screened the literature and the available guidelines on colonic diverticular disease.

Nonalcoholic liver disease (NAFLD) is a hot topic for gastroenterologists and hepatologists and clinical practitioners must be kept abreast with the rapid progress of knowledge in this field. The Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (RSGH) has elaborated this review dedicated to evidence-based data on pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of this condition. The term NAFLD includes two distinct conditions, with different histologic features and prognosis: non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the second with the highest risk of evolution to cirrhosis and its complications, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Management of patients undergoing endoscopy and under treatment with the newer direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) is a common and a complex clinical issue that gastroenterologists have to face more and more often these days. The increasing use of DOACs in patients requiring both short- and long-term anticoagulation is mostly due to the advantages these agents offer, among which the lack of monitoring requirements and the reduced need of dose adjustments are perhaps the most important ones. Managing these patients in the peri-endoscopic period implies balancing the risk for thrombosis that a certain patient carries and the bleeding risk associated with the endoscopic procedure itself.

Background And Aims: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) therapy is challenging and suppression of acid secretion or prokinetics do not cure all cases. Some drugs with protective action on the esophageal mucosa have been used alternatively or in association with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and/or prokinetics. The Romanian Society of Neurogastroenterology undertook an Evidence-Based analysis, from which this position paper evolved.
