Exposure to the food contaminant acrylamide and its reactive epoxide metabolite glycidamide (GA) induces reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated oxidative stress and subsequent cellular death. Recent studies have revealed that the toxic effects of acrylamide may be due to GA, especially on male reproductive system cells. In this regard, it is important to determine the effects of GA on Sertoli cells, which are essential cells for the male reproductive system.
