The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) fusion protein (F) facilitates virus-cell membrane fusion, which is critical for viral entry, and cell-cell fusion. In contrast to many type I fusion proteins, RSV F must be proteolytically cleaved at two distinct sites to be fusogenic. Cleavage at both sites results in the release of a 27 amino-acid fragment, termed Pep27.

Oligo-benzamides demonstrated outstanding α-helix mimicry and can be readily synthesized by following high yielding and iterative reaction steps in both solution-phase and solid-phase. A number of oligo-benzamides have been designed to emulate α-helical peptide segments in biologically active proteins and showed strong protein binding, in turn effectively disrupting protein-protein interactions in vitro and in vivo.

These molecules have shown significant potential toward the development of novel cancer therapies. The worldwide impact of RSV has prioritized the search for an RSV vaccine, with most targeting the critical fusion (F) protein. However, questions remain about the mechanism of RSV entry and RSV F triggering and fusion promotion.

Direct information from patients regarding these aspects can be collected via electronic platforms in the form of electronic Patient Reported Outcome Measures (ePROMs). Research has shown that the use of ePROMS in cancer care leads to improved communication, better symptom control, prolonged survival and a reduction in hospital admissions and emergency department attendance.

Inter-molecular inter-actions comprising these ribbons are π-π inter-actions between the pyridinium and adjacent pyridyl rings, as well as O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding between water molecules and two adjacent pyridyl N atoms. Half of the cation is generated by the mirror plane.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAxionlike particles (ALPs) are predicted in many extensions of the standard model, and their masses can naturally be well below the electroweak scale. In the presence of couplings to electroweak bosons, these particles could be emitted in flavor-changing B meson decays. We report herein a search for an ALP, a, in the reaction B^{±}→K^{±}a, a→γγ using data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC.

In particular, the existence of dark matter bound states (darkonia) remains to be investigated. This possibility could arise in a simple model in which a dark photon (A^{'}) is light enough to generate an attractive force between dark fermions.

To successfully infect a host cell, HeV utilizes two surface glycoproteins: the attachment (G) protein to bind, and the trimeric fusion (F) protein to merge the viral envelope with the membrane of the host cell. The transmembrane (TM) region of HeV F has been shown to have roles in F protein stability and the overall trimeric association of F.

In addition to facilitating fusion needed for viral entry, S can also drive cell-cell fusion, a pathogenic effect observed in the lungs of SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. While several studies have investigated S requirements involved in viral particle entry, examination of S stability and factors involved in S cell-cell fusion remain limited.

We report on a precision measurement of the ratio R_{τμ}^{ϒ(3S)}=B(ϒ(3S)→τ^{+}τ^{-})/B(ϒ(3S)→μ^{+}μ^{-}) using data collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e^{+}e^{-} collider. The experimental constraints on additional scalars with masses in the MeV to GeV range could be significantly weakened if they interact predominantly with leptons rather than quarks. At an e^{+}e^{-} collider, such a leptophilic scalar (ϕ_{L}) would be produced predominantly through radiation from a τ lepton.
