Background/objectives: Psoriasis is a chronic dermatological condition with systemic implications, especially with metabolic syndrome (MS). This study evaluated the vicious cycle where obesity and MS exacerbate systemic inflammation that complicates the efficacy of psoriasis therapies by examining the PASI score over a one-year period. Patients were classified into two subgroups: those with psoriasis alone (PSO) and those with both psoriasis and metabolic syndrome (PSO-MS).

Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide, and recent research highlights its growing connection to alterations in the microbiota. This review delves into the intricate relationship between microbiotas and breast cancer, exploring its presence in healthy breast tissue, its changes during cancer progression, and its considerable impact on both the tumor microenvironment (TME) and the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME). We extensively analyze how the microbiota influences cancer growth, invasion, metastasis, resistance to drugs, and the evasion of the immune system, with a special focus on its effects on the TIME.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic disorder affecting about 1 in 50,000 to 1 in 150,000 people globally, characterized by recurrent episodes of non-itchy swelling, without significant variation among genders or ethnicities.
  • - There are three types of HAE: Type I (85% of cases) involves a deficiency in the C1 esterase inhibitor gene, Type II (15%) features dysfunctional C1-INH, and Type III (5-10%) is often estrogen-dependent with normal C1-INH levels, but all types show similar symptoms.
  • - Recent advancements in understanding HAE have led to the development of targeted therapies for both immediate treatment

Significant gaps remain in the understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of fibromyalgia (FM), and the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced even more unknowns. Social factors specific to that period, the viral infection itself, and/or vaccination are additional elements that can complicate the progression of the disease or the response to treatment. Aim: The primary hypothesis to be evaluated in this study is that an acute COVID-19 infection, even when considered recovered, may induce changes in the response to non-pharmacological treatment in FM patients, particularly concerning pain.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a persistent inflammatory skin condition that impacts individuals of various age groups, including both children and adults. Its pathophysiology involves allergens penetrating a disrupted epidermal barrier, triggering the dermal cells to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines and eliciting a T-cell-mediated immune response. Notably, interleukins (ILs), particularly interleukin 4 (IL-4) and interleukin 13 (IL-13), play a key role in AD pathogenesis.

COVID-19 infection often produces cardiovascular complications, which can range from mild to severe and influence the overall prognosis. Imaging is the cornerstone for diagnosing initial COVID-19 cardiovascular involvement as well as treatment guidance. In this review, we present the current state of the literature on this subject while also emphasizing possible algorithms for indicating and executing these investigations.

(1) Background: The assessment of mortality and rebleeding rate in upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is essential, and several prognostic scores have been proposed. Some patients with UGIB did not undergo endoscopy, either because they refused the procedure, suffered from alcohol withdrawal symptoms or altered general status, or because the bleeding was severe enough to cause death before the endoscopy. The mortality risk in the subgroup of patients without endoscopy is poorly evaluated in the literature.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is a subgroup of the eosinophilic gastro-intestinal disorders (EGIDs), characterized by eosinophilic infiltration and chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. These are rare diseases with still incompletely elucidated causes and mechanisms, with frequently delayed diagnosis and variable outcome. Despite increased interest in eosinophilic diseases in recent years, fewer data have been published on EGE and no standardized diagnostic and therapeutic approach exists.

Article Synopsis
  • Colorectal carcinoma is a significant cause of death, with 0.2-12% of resected colonic polyps found to contain cancer cells, prompting a retrospective study of 905 patients over 13 years.
  • Out of 2033 polyps removed, 122 had malignant cells, showing a correlation between larger polyp size (mean diameter of 23.44 mm) and malignancy, with specific polyps types and locations linked to higher risks.
  • Surgical intervention was performed in 18 cases, revealing a metastasis rate of 16.67%, while endoscopic resections had a lower rate of 1.61%; lymph node involvement was assessed for some surgical patients, indicating further complexity in

Transient acantholytic dermatosis (TAD) is a benign, non-familial, non-immune mediated acantholytic disorder of unknown etiology. The presence of polymorphous, unorganized, pruritic lesions on the trunk, associated with focal acantholysis and dyskeratosis, resembles a wide variety of dermatoses. The etiology of TAD (also known as Grover's disease) is unknown, and the success of treatment relies on the correct identification of the disease; however, some cases are refractory to all forms of therapy.

Mast cell activation syndromes (MCAS) represent a heterogeneous clinical entity caused by episodic and severe mast cell activation, including primary and secondary mast cell disorders (MCDs). The group of primary or clonal MCDs refers to systemic mastocytosis, other clonal MCAS and hereditary hypertryptasemia, while the secondary MCAS is characterized by normal mast cells (MCs) which are activated by external triggers, such as allergens or physical stimuli. Another category of MCAS is the idiopathic form, when no trigger or genetic mutation can be identified.

A fraction of the petroleum extracted from oil reservoirs contains associated natural gas. Rather than building infrastructure to recover low volumes of this natural gas, the industry flares or vents it to the atmosphere, which contributes to atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions but also reduces the air quality locally because it contains gaseous sulphur and nitrogen compounds. Converting the natural gas (NG) to hydrocarbons with a small-scale two-step gas-to-liquids process, is an alternative to flaring and venting.
