Agmatine, an endogenous polyamine in CNS, is derived from arginine by dearboxylation. Like polyamines, agmatine has been studied for its neuroprotetive effects. At present, a large body of experimental evidences has been gathered that demonstrate the neuroprotective effects of agmatine.
