Active COVID-19 infection as a barrier to postpartum tubal ligation.

Objectives: To identify patients unable to obtain postpartum bilateral tubal ligations (ppBTLs) due to policy prohibiting "elective" procedures for COVID-positive patients at a single academic medical center in New Jersey.

Results: Upon retrospective chart review of patients requesting ppBTLS, of 110 ppBTL requests between identified via retrospective chart review between February 1, 2020, and February 28, 2022, 24 (22%) were canceled due to COVID infection. Of these patients, 10 (42%) were uninsured, 13 (54%) had Medicaid, and 22 (92%) were Hispanic/Latinx.

Assessment of Disparities Associated With a Crisis Standards of Care Resource Allocation Algorithm for Patients in 2 US Hospitals During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Importance: Significant concern has been raised that crisis standards of care policies aimed at guiding resource allocation may be biased against people based on race/ethnicity.

Objective: To evaluate whether unanticipated disparities by race or ethnicity arise from a single institution's resource allocation policy.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cohort study included adults (aged ≥18 years) who were cared for on a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ward or in a monitored unit requiring invasive or noninvasive ventilation or high-flow nasal cannula between May 26 and July 14, 2020, at 2 academic hospitals in Miami, Florida.

Effect of Race-Ethnicity and CT Angiography on Renal Injury During Blood Pressure Treatment for Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

Background: Lowering blood pressure intensively in acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is associated with adverse renal events; Blacks and Hispanics have a higher incidence of ICH and kidney disease than Whites. In addition, CT angiography (CTA), which may also be associated with acute kidney injury (AKI), is often done in acute ICH. Our objective was to investigate the relationship between aggressive BP management, CTA, race-ethnicity and the risk of developing AKI in patients presenting with ICH.
