Methods: We analyzed 1410 surgical pathology reports from adult papillary thyroid cancer patients from 2010 to 2019. Structured and nonstructured reports were used to create a consensus-based ground truth dictionary and categorized them into modified recurrence risk levels.
Purpose Of Review: To analyze the evolving epidemiologic trends in thyroid disease, focusing on risk factors, underlying drivers of these changes, and their implications on clinical practice and research priorities.
Recent Findings: Thyroid disease remains one of the most prevalent groups of disorders globally, and the shift in its frequency and distribution is multifactorial. The prevalence of hypothyroidism increases with age, although normal thyrotropin ranges appear to be age-dependent, raising concern for potentially inappropriate levothyroxine use.

This study aims to summarize the best available evidence on interventions to improve symptomatology in patients with hypothyroidism and persistent symptoms.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted in March 2022 for randomized controlled trials and observational studies on interventions for adult patients with persistent hypothyroid symptoms despite biochemical euthyroidism on thyroid hormone replacement.
Objective: To address thyroid cancer overdiagnosis, we aim to develop a natural language processing (NLP) algorithm to determine the appropriateness of thyroid ultrasounds (TUS).
Patients And Methods: Between 2017 and 2021, we identified 18,000 TUS patients at Mayo Clinic and selected 628 for chart review to create a ground truth dataset based on consensus. We developed a rule-based NLP pipeline to identify TUS as appropriate TUS (aTUS) or inappropriate TUS (iTUS) using patients' clinical notes and additional meta information.
Purpose: Identify factors that can be used to assess the appropriateness of a thyroid biopsy and propose a pathway to define inappropriate thyroid biopsies in practice.
Methods: We identified factors utilized in clinical guidelines and existing literature to determine the clinical indications for a thyroid biopsy. Subsequently, we assembled a multidisciplinary panel of experts, including patients, clinicians, researchers, and quality experts, to integrate these factors and develop a pathway for assessing the appropriateness of thyroid biopsies.
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are highly effective medications for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Pharmacological studies in rodents support an association between the use of GLP-1 RAs and the development of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) resulting in a black box warning for these agents in patients at risk for this condition. Background: There have been documented racial and ethnic disparities in the care and clinical outcomes of patients with thyroid disease.
Context: Key to improving disparities in thyroid care is understanding the context for racial and ethnic disparities, which includes acknowledging and addressing social determinants of health. Thyroid disease diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship care are impacted by patient- and system-level factors, including socioeconomic status and economic stability, language, education, health literacy, and health care systems and health policy.
Context: Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is one of the most ordered laboratory tests.
Objective: Determine trends of TSH testing rates and components of thyroid function testing.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of adults 18-64 years old without evidence of thyroid disease with at least 365 days of continuous enrollment between 2006 and 2020 in the IBM MarketScan Claims Database.
Background: The objective is to examine and synthesise the best available experimental evidence about the effect of ambulatory consultation duration on quality of healthcare.
