Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a serious kidney infection characterized by gas production in kidney tissue, which can lead to severe complications, especially when combined with emphysematous cystitis (EC).
The case study presents a 45-year-old woman who underwent emergency procedures, including percutaneous nephrostomy and placement of a Double J stent, to manage her EPN and EC.
Despite initial improvement, the patient experienced recurring urinary infections and complications, ultimately resulting in a nephrectomy (removal of the kidney), highlighting the rarity and complexity of this condition.
