Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The consumption of nephrotoxic plants is quite frequent in Morocco and could explain the high prevalence of indeterminate nephropathy in patients with End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD).

Aim Of The Study: to determine, in a population of chronic hemodialysis (CHD) patients and before the occurrence of ESKD, the prevalence of the use of nephrotoxic plants, in particular, Aristolochia longa L. (Bereztam) and the etiological role of plants in the rapid progression of known and unknown nephropathy toward the end stage of chronic hemodialysis.

Disorders of water balance are a disease commonly encountered in our clinical practice. Analysis of vasopressin receptor type II (V2R) is essential to understand the physiology of water balance and it is used as a biological prototype of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Nephrogenic syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis (NSIAD) is a syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) with low plasmatic vasopressin.

Article Synopsis
  • Pachyonychia congenita (PC) is a rare inherited condition that leads to painful skin thickening on hands and feet, along with thick nails, cysts, and oral lesions.
  • The report discusses a case of a child diagnosed with PC, who also presented with bronchiectasis (a lung condition) and renal artery stenosis (narrowing of the arteries supplying the kidneys).
  • The diagnosis of PC was confirmed through clinical and histological analysis, and the additional health issues hint at a potential connection to a specific syndrome.

Unlabelled: Diabetic nephropathy is the primary cause of chronic kidney disease and is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality. Cigarette smoking is probably the most complex and the least understood among the risk factors for chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of smoking on progression of nephropathy and cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetic patients with albuminuria and those without albuminuria.

Objective: Albuminuria is an early marker of renal impairment and a powerful factor of progression of renal disease in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Approximately, one-third of patients with T2D have micro- or macroalbuminuria and these patients have a high risk of progression toward End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) as well as increased cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of remission, regression, persistence, and progression of albuminuria, and to evaluate the impact of change in albuminuria on kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in a prospective cohort of patients with T2D.

We herein present a case of bilateral serous retinal detachment (SRD) as a presenting sign of nephrotic syndrome (NS). A 48-year-old man complained of decreased vision related to bilateral SRD. Laboratory tests revealed NS (serum albumin, 17 g/L: proteinuria, 15.
