Article Synopsis
  • Current guidelines recommend non-surgical treatment for T4b buccal mucosa carcinoma, so this study compares outcomes of T4b patients with T4a patients who received similar surgical and adjuvant treatments.
  • The study analyzed oncologic outcomes of 282 patients to evaluate overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) at 2 years, finding no significant difference in survival rates between T4a and T4b patients.
  • Key factors influencing outcomes in T4b patients include extra capsular spread, involvement of the lateral pterygoid muscle, and missing adjuvant treatment, indicating that surgical options may need to be reconsidered for T4b cases.
