Purpose: Classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is a B-cell lymphoma that occurs primarily in young adults and, less frequently, in elderly individuals. A hallmark of cHL is the exceptional scarcity (1%-5%) of the malignant Hodgkin Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells within a network of nonmalignant immune cells. Molecular determinants governing the relationship between HRS cells and their proximal microenvironment remain largely unknown.

Native microalgal-bacterial consortia from the Ecuadorian Amazon region: an alternative to domestic wastewater treatment.

In low-middle income countries (LMIC), wastewater treatment using native microalgal-bacterial consortia has emerged as a cost-effective and technologically-accessible remediation strategy. This study evaluated the effectiveness of six microalgal-bacterial consortia (MBC) from the Ecuadorian Amazon in removing organic matter and nutrients from non-sterilized domestic wastewater (NSWW) and sterilized domestic wastewater (SWW) samples. Microalgal-bacterial consortia growth, in NSWW was, on average, six times higher than in SWW.

Cancer immunotherapy can result in lasting tumor regression, but predictive biomarkers of treatment response remain ill-defined. Here, we performed single-cell proteomics, transcriptomics, and genomics on matched untreated and IL2 injected metastases from patients with melanoma. Lesions that completely regressed following intralesional IL2 harbored increased fractions and densities of nonproliferating CD8+ T cells lacking expression of PD-1, LAG-3, and TIM-3 (PD-1-LAG-3-TIM-3-).

Influence of the sex of the transmitting grandparent in congenital myotonic dystrophy.

To analyse the influence of the sex of the transmitting grandparents on the occurrence of the congenital form of myotonic dystrophy (CDM), we have studied complete three generation pedigrees of 49 CDM cases, analysing: (1) the sex distribution in the grandparents' generation, and (2) the intergenerational amplification of the CTG repeat, measured in its absolute and relative values, between grandparents and the mothers of CDM patients and between the latter and their CDM children. The mean relative intergenerational increase in the 32 grandparent-mother pairs was significantly greater than in the 56 mother-CDM pairs (Mann-Whitney U test, p < 0.001).

Culinary practices and consumption characteristics of common beans at the rural home level.

A survey was carried out on housewives of rural bean-producing areas for the purpose of collecting information on bean selection procedures, culinary practices and bean consumption in rural homes from four departments of northeastern Guatemala. The study sample consisted of 10 families selected at random from each of 19 municipalities. The questionnaire used had been pretested in two rural communities not included in the study sample.
