Purpose: To assess the ability of patients with exudative AMD to detect exudative recurrence. Another objective was to assess if self-monitoring, as currently taught, improves this ability.
Materials And Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was carried out in the ophthalmology center of BeauSoleil clinic in Montpellier between March 1 and April 1 2016.
Objective: Tinagl1 has a weak genetic association with craniosynostosis, but its functions in cartilage and bone development are unknown. Knockdown of Tinagl1 in zebrafish embryos allowed an initial characterization of its potential effects on craniofacial cartilage development and a test of whether these effects could involve Wnt signaling.
Results: Tinagl1 knockdown resulted in dose-dependent reductions and defects in ventral pharyngeal arch cartilages as well as the ethmoid plate, a zebrafish correlate to the palate.
We report a rare case of acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE) in an elderly patient and a review of the recent scientific literature. A 65-year-old Caucasian man, forty-five days after return from tropical travel he developed right-sided facial palsy with right hemiplegia, dysarthria and a positive Babinski sign. He started prednisone 90 mg/day.

Methods: A total of 50 eyes from 50 patients with CRVO were consecutively included in this prospective study. Predictive factors were assessed by comparing baseline characteristics of patients classified into 3 groups: those showing a decrease in VA; those displaying a change in Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) letter score between 0 and 15; and those in whom an increase in VA =15 letters was achieved.
There are multiple populations of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons that have distinct physiological and behavioral functions. Teleost fish have a population of GnRH3 neurons located in the terminal nerve (TN) associated with the olfactory bulb that is thought to play a neuromodulatory role in multiple physiological systems, including olfactory, visual, and reproductive. We used transgenic zebrafish in which the GnRH3 promoter drives expression of a green fluorescent protein to identify GnRH3 neurons during development in live embryos.

Yet, little is currently known about the evolution of neuronal proteins regulating these processes. Here, we report the first phylogenetic study of NEEP21, calcyon, and P19, a family of neuronal proteins implicated in synaptic receptor endocytosis and recycling, as well as in membrane protein trafficking in the somatodendritic and axonal compartments of differentiated neurons.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTaurine and its transporter (TauT) are expressed in preimplantation embryos, but their role in embryogenesis is not known. To investigate the role of TauT during embryonic development, we cloned and functionally characterized the zebrafish TauT. The zebrafish TauT cDNA codes for a protein of 625 amino acids which is highly homologous to mammalian TauT.

Although the spatial expression of Ku70 during vertebrate embryogenesis has not been described, DNA repair proteins are generally considered to be "housekeeping" genes, which are required for radioprotection in all cells. Here, we report the cloning and characterization of the zebrafish Ku70 ortholog.

However, investigation of the mechanisms by which TECs perform these functions has been inhibited by the lack of genetic tools. Since the Foxn1 gene is expressed in all presumptive TECs from the early stages of thymus organogenesis and broadly in the adult thymus, it is an ideal locus for driving gene expression in differentiating and mature TECs.

Although several factors are known to regulate neurite outgrowth, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we provide evidence for a role of phosphatidylinositol transfer protein-alpha (PlTPalpha) in neurite extension in response to netrin-1, an extracellular guidance cue.

The structural approach to family therapy offers a useful perspective to the nurse therapist working with families with various cultural backgrounds. Asian and Hispanic families are examined to illustrate using Minuchin's approach to family counseling. The rationale for the structural approach is explored, and specific therapeutic techniques for practice are described.
