This technique employs a Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) as the main spectrometer with the option of a veto system to reject events exhibiting only partial energy deposition in the SDD. A precise understanding of the spectrometer's response to electrons is crucial for accurately reconstructing the theoretical shape of the beta spectrum.

Understanding the growth patterns and developmental trajectories of teeth during early life stages provides valuable insights into the ontogeny of individuals, particularly in archaeological populations where such information is scarce. This study focuses on first deciduous molars, specifically investigating crown formation times and daily secretion rates, through histological analysis. A total of 34 teeth from the Early Medieval necropolises of Casalmoro and Guidizzolo (Mantua, Lombardy, northern Italy) were analysed assessing growth parameters and identifying possible differences between sites and between sexes, which are determined through proteomic analysis.

Charting new territory: the early lessons in integrating social determinant of health (SDOH) measures into practice.

Quality measures for social determinants of health (SDOH) have been introduced or proposed in more than 20 federal programs, initiatives, or guidance documents to capture performance, but understanding the scope of work needed to effectively collect and align with these new measurement requirements is still in its early stages. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recently developed the Social Need Screening and Intervention (SNS-E) measure and is currently building 2 new domains of interest: utility insecurity and social connection. Before these domains can be leveraged to drive population health, the feasibility of collecting and reporting on them must be assessed.

Indications of digital literacy during Latino-focused, community-based COVID-19 testing implementation.

Objective: We sought to characterize indicators of digital literacy among persons testing for COVID-19 and community health workers (CHWs) providing testing via a digital platform in low-income, majority-Latino communities in California.

Materials And Methods: From March 2021 to March 2022, we trained CHWs to provide community-based COVID-19 testing that relied on a digital platform for registration, recording and reporting of results. Among community members, we examined factors associated with accessing test results digitally and time to results receipt.

Enhanced anammox-mediated nitrogen removal in bioelectrochemical systems at prolonged negative electrode potentials.

Bioelectrochemical anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) systems allow eco-friendly removal of nitrogen from reject wastewater coming from biogas processing as the anammox bacteria have previously shown to have c-type cytochromes acting in the extracellular electron transport (EET) mechanism between the bacteria and electrode. The anammoxosome compartment present in anammox bacteria features a highly curved membrane and contains tubular structures along with electron-dense particles that contain iron, which could enhance the process of EET and enhance nitrogen removal by properly applied potentials. Non-Abelian Anyon Statistics through ac Conductance of a Majorana Interferometer.

Demonstrating the non-Abelian Ising anyon statistics of Majorana zero modes in a physical platform still represents a major open challenge in physics. We here show that the linear low-frequency charge conductance of a Majorana interferometer containing a floating superconducting island can reveal the topological spin of quantum edge vortices. The latter are associated with chiral Majorana fermion edge modes and represent "flying" Ising anyons.

Mpemba Effects in Open Nonequilibrium Quantum Systems.

We generalize the classical thermal Mpemba effect (where an initially hot system relaxes faster to the final equilibrium state than a cold one) to open quantum systems coupled to several reservoirs. We show that, in general, two different types of quantum Mpemba effects are possible. They may be distinguished by quantum state tomography.

Feasibility of cardiopulmonary exercise test in an athlete who underwent total laringectomy.

We report the case of an athlete who, despite facing the challenges of laryngectomy, underwent a comprehensive cardiopulmonary exercise test to assess both his ability to participate in sports and his cardiopulmonary fitness. We not only highlight the individualized approach to sports assessment in a challenging medical context but also emphasize the feasibility of employing cardiopulmonary testing in evaluating subjects in unusual settings.

Performance evaluation of a self-administered point-of-care test for anal HPV screening in PrEP users: data from a community-based PrEP service.

Objectives: In this study, we compared the performance of a self-administered point-of-care test (POCT) for anal human papillomavirus (HPV) screening with laboratory gold-standard test in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) users and evaluated its feasibility.

Methods: We enrolled PrEP users from a local community-based PrEP service. Each participant self-collected an anal swab to test anal HPV with a PCR POCT capable of detecting 14 high-risk HPV genotypes.
