Purpose: Endoscopic resection is appropriate for selected colorectal polyp cancers, but significant variation exists in treatment. This study aims to investigate variation in management of screen-detected polyp cancers (T1), factors predicting primary endoscopic polypectomy and threshold for subsequent surgical resection.
Method: Patients with polyp cancers (T1) diagnosed by the bowel cancer screening programme (BCSP) were investigated at two screening centres (5 individual sites and 4 MDTs, 2012-2022).
Introduction: Timely preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans are important for patients requiring emergency laparotomy. United Kingdom guidelines state that a CT scan should be reported within 1h for 'critical' patients (will alter management at the time) and within 12h for 'urgent' patients (will alter management but not necessarily that day).
Methods: An observational study included patients who were added to the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) at a National Health Service trust from 2014 to 2021.
Objective: Acute cardiogenic shock is a life-threatening condition with mortality rates of up to 50%. If conventional therapy fails, veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) therapy has emerged to a promising alternative for temporary cardiac and respiratory support in specialized centers. However, it is only a bridge to recovery, final decision, heart transplantation or the permanent implantation of a left ventricular assist device.

We therefore assessed the association of off-hour vs. on-hour intensive care unit admission with 30-day mortality in patients with cardiogenic shock.

In the current study, a bioassay-guided fractionation allowed for the identification of an active fraction displaying significant cytotoxic activity against the human pancreatic adenocarcinoma cell line PANC-1 from the EtOAc extract of the investigated fungus compared to the standard paclitaxel. The structures of the isolated compounds from the active fraction were established using 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, together with comparisons with the literature.

Progressive tissue loss is a type of tissue loss that has complicated extremity injury in recent conflicts. It has resulted in more proximal residual limb lengths and has influenced rehabilitation.

PRD is a strong predictor of mortality in patients with ischaemic and non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy. Until recently, two methods for calculating PRD have been proposed.

The main goal of our study was to analyze the UR following groin hernia repair (GHR), primary- (PVHR), and incisional ventral hernia repairs (IVHR).
Methods: A French registry-based multicenter study was conducted using prospective data from all consecutive patients registered from 2015 to 2021.
The hospital based Redthread Youth Violence Intervention Programme (YVIP) utilises experienced youth workers to support 11-24 year olds following an episode of violent injury, assault or exploitation who present to the Emergency Department (ED) at the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre (MTC), Nottingham, UK. The YVIP aims to promote personal change with the aim of reducing the incidence of further similar events. We conducted a retrospective, observational, cohort study to examine the association between engagement with the YVIP and re-attendance rates to the ED following a referral to Redthread.

Rates of reporting of sexual violence and subsequent passage of cases through the criminal justice system are poor all over the world. The presence or absence of anogenital injury following sexual assault may influence survivors in their willingness to report a crime, and law enforcement officers and jurors in their decision making regarding the laying of charges and/or conviction of offenders.

Guidance varies on the types of recommended medications and when they should be administered. Mnemonics have become commonplace in prehospital medicine to facilitate recall and retention.

There have been sporadic case reports describing 'traumatic appendicitis' (acute appendicitis occurring following injury) for almost a hundred years. Although this might seem to be an interesting and rare diagnosis for the journal reader, both appendicitis and trauma are very common, and their occurrence together may only give the illusion of causality. Indeed, such a diagnosis may not even exist.

The establishment of Major Trauma Centres (MTC) and networks in England in 2012 allowed for centralisation of trauma services and specialties including hepatobiliary surgery. We aimed to investigate the outcomes for patients with hepatic injury over the last 17 years at a large MTC in England in relation to the MTC status of the centre.

Government funding of services for children and young people has reduced nationally over the last decade. We aimed to investigate the trends in admissions of injured children to a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) and examine the relationship between injuries sustained by violent mechanisms and local authority funding of children and youth services within the same catchment area.

Surgeons with smaller glove sizes have previously been reported to have increased difficulties with some minimally invasive instruments. We aim to investigate hand anthropometrics and their relationship to surgeon comfort when using MIS instruments.

Methods: An observational study included patients aged ≤ 17 years at a UK Major Trauma Centre injured by knife trauma from 2016 to 2022.
