Introduction/aims: Neurolymphomatosis is a hematological condition defined by the direct infiltration of malignant lymphomatous cells into the peripheral nervous system. Since nerve conduction studies may disclose demyelinating features, clinicians may misdiagnose neurolymphomatosis as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). This study aimed to determine whether patients with neurolymphomatosis met the 2021 revised criteria for CIDP.

Development of an biofilm model for the study of the impact of fluoroquinolones on sewer biofilm microbiota.

Sewer biofilms are likely to constitute hotspots for selecting and accumulating antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). This study aimed to optimize culture conditions to obtain biofilms, mimicking the biofilm collected in sewers, to study the impact of fluoroquinolones (FQs) on sewer biofilm microbiota. Biofilms were grown on coupons in CDC Biofilm Reactors®, continuously fed with nutrients and inoculum (1/100 diluted wastewater).

Dietary Quality and Circulating Lipidomic Profiles in 2 Cohorts of Middle-Aged and Older Male Finnish Smokers and American Populations.

Background: Higher dietary quality is associated with lower disease risks and has not been examined extensively with lipidomic profiles.

Objectives: Our goal was to examine associations of the Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2015, Alternate HEI-2010 (AHEI-2010), and alternate Mediterranean Diet Index (aMED) diet quality indices with serum lipidomic profiles.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of HEI-2015, AHEI-2010, and aMED with lipidomic profiles from 2 nested case-control studies within the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial (n = 627) and the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention Study (n = 711).

Lipidomics and pancreatic cancer risk in two prospective studies.

Pancreatic ductal carcinoma (PDAC) is highly fatal with limited understanding of mechanisms underlying its carcinogenesis. We comprehensively investigated whether lipidomic measures were associated with PDAC in two prospective studies. We measured 904 lipid species and 252 fatty acids across 15 lipid classes in pre-diagnostic serum (up to 24 years) in a PDAC nested-case control study within the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial (PLCO, NCT00002540) with 332 matched case-control sets including 272 having serial blood samples and Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention Study (ATBC, NCT00342992) with 374 matched case-control sets.

Sources of Variability in Serum Lipidomic Measurements and Implications for Epidemiologic Studies.

Epidemiological studies using lipidomic approaches can identify lipids associated with exposures and diseases. We evaluated the sources of variability of lipidomic profiles measured in blood samples and the implications when designing epidemiologic studies. We measured 918 lipid species in nonfasting baseline serum from 693 participants in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial, with 570 participants having serial blood samples separated by 1-5 years and 72 blinded replicate quality control samples.

Association between anthropometry and lifestyle factors and risk of B-cell lymphoma: An exposome-wide analysis.

To better understand the role of individual and lifestyle factors in human disease, an exposome-wide association study was performed to investigate within a single-study anthropometry measures and lifestyle factors previously associated with B-cell lymphoma (BCL). Within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and nutrition study, 2402 incident BCL cases were diagnosed from 475 426 participants that were followed-up on average 14 years. Standard and penalized Cox regression models as well as principal component analysis (PCA) were used to evaluate 84 exposures in relation to BCL risk.

Mediating effect of soluble B-cell activation immune markers on the association between anthropometric and lifestyle factors and lymphoma development.

Sustained B-cell activation is an important mechanism contributing to B-cell lymphoma (BCL). We aimed to validate four previously reported B-cell activation markers predictive of BCL risk (sCD23, sCD27, sCD30, and CXCL13) and to examine their possible mediating effects on the association between anthropometric and lifestyle factors and major BCL subtypes. Pre-diagnostic serum levels were measured for 517 BCL cases and 525 controls in a nested case-control study.

In this work, the associations between adherence to healthy lifestyles and risks of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) were evaluated in a large-scale European prospective cohort. Within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), 2,999 incident lymphoma cases (132 HL and 2,746 NHL) were diagnosed among 453,808 participants after 15 years (median) of follow-up.

Background: To analyze the potential effect of social inequality on pancreatic cancer risk in Western Europe, by reassessing the association within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) Study, including a larger number of cases and an extended follow-up.

Methods: Data on highest education attained were gathered for 459,170 participants (70% women) from 10 European countries. A relative index of inequality (RII) based on adult education was calculated for comparability across countries and generations.

Four epidemiologic studies have assessed the association between nut intake and pancreatic cancer risk with contradictory results. The present study aims to investigate the relation between nut intake (including seeds) and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) risk in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazards ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) for nut intake and PDAC risk.

Influence of the sample preservation mode to assess the chronic toxicity of an industrial effluent.

To improve the preservation of effluent samples, the contribution of refrigeration, freezing, and freeze-drying techniques to maintain the toxic characteristics of the samples was evaluated. To achieve this evaluation one acute test, three long-term toxicity tests, a biochemical test (P450 induction), and a mutagenicity test (Ames test) were used on the same industrial effluent. Refrigeration and freezing demonstrated a similar capacity of preservation.
