Physeal fractures of the distal femur are among the most commonly encountered fractures in skeletally immature dogs. These fractures respond poorly to conservative management and thus early surgical reduction and stabilisation are recommended. A 7-month-old intact male Border collie presented with a history of chronic lameness.

Methods: A total of 29 ulcerative colitis patients, having undergone at least two diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance colonographies, were included. Disease activity was evaluated using the Mayo endoscopic subscore and the Nancy score.
Background & Aims: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the standard of care for intermediate stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and it is the most commonly used treatment for HCC worldwide. However, no prognostic indices, designed to select appropriate candidates for repeat conventional TACE, have been incorporated in the guidelines.
Methods: From January 2007 to April 2012, 139 consecutive HCC patients, mainly with an alcohol- or viral-induced disease, were treated with TACE.
Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of specific magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences in determining the site, lateralization, and extent of extruded intervertebral disk material (EIDM), compared with surgical findings, in Dachshunds with thoracolumbar intervertebral disk extrusion (TLIDE).
Design: Prospective clinical study.
Sample Population: 16 Dachshunds with clinical signs of intervertebral disk disease.

The results of the trials demonstrated that this applicator is an effective and practical device for the passive treatment of both deer and cattle for trichostrongyle infections using the endectocide, moxidectin (Cydectin. Fort Dodge Animal Health, USA), of cattle for hom fly (Haemotobia irritans) infestations using the insecticide, cyfluthrin (CyLence, Bayer AG, Germany) and of cattle for tick infestations (in particular Amblyomma hebraeum and Rhipicephalus appendiculatus) using the acaricides deltamethrin and amitraz (Delete All, Intervet, South Africa).

This study evaluated the expression of galectin-3 in 101 curettage specimens from normal, hyperplastic, and neoplastic endometrial tissues using immunohistochemistry. The histologic diagnoses were as follows: normal proliferative (n = 8) and secretory (n = 4) phase, simple hyperplasia (SH, n = 16), complex hyperplasia without atypia (CH, n = 11), atypical hyperplasia (AH, n = 13), endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EC, n = 35), serous papillary carcinoma (SPC, n = 10), and clear cell carcinoma (CC, n = 4). Immunostaining was scored with regard to the approximate percentage of positive tumor cells and relative staining intensity.

Additionally, respiratory graphics as volume-pressure and flow-volume plots can be displayed. In clinical practice, however, they are rarely used to refine the ventilator setting.

Methods: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded archival tissue sections were immunostained with monoclonal antibodies against topo IIalpha, p53, and PCNA, as well as an affinity-isolated prediluted ready-to-use Ki-67 antibody using a standard immunohistochemical method, and stained with a colloid silver solution for AgNORs. Immunostaining was quantitated by determining the percentage of positively staining nuclei in each sample to express the labeling indices (LIs) by counting the immunoreactive nuclei in 1000 epithelial cells per case for each antibody.

Purpose: To present an overview of the impact of the nurse practitioner (NP) on the South African health care arena and describe the legislative framework for NP practice.
Data Sources: Statutes and laws of the government of South Africa; published professional guidelines; authors' experiences.
Conclusions: The key challenges for NPs in South Africa lie in lobbying for enabling legislation, obtaining access to education and training opportunities, and managing risks within the rapidly changing environment.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) by neoplastic cells in serous ovarian cystadenocarcinoma in relation to proliferation as determined by mitotic activity and to FIGO stage.
Materials And Methods: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded archival tissue from 10 benign serous cystadenomas and 45 serous carcinomas was immunostained with a polyclonal antibody to VEGF (Biogenex) utilizing the LSAB kit, alkaline phosphatase (Dako). Positivity was scored as (0) for no, (+) for weak, and (++) for strong staining.
The more widely used divalent forms of iron (Fe2+) supplementation often lead to gastrointestinal symptoms in preterm infants although little is known about the use of nonionic trivalent iron preparations (FeIII) in these patients. It is especially under this nonionic form that dietary iron is available. For this reason, a randomized controlled study was undertaken to compare the efficacy and the extent of possible side effects in two groups of preterm infants.

This study evaluated the expression of nm23 in curettage specimens from 63 cases of normal, hyperplastic and neoplastic endometrial tissues by immunohistochemistry. The histological diagnoses were as follows: normal proliferative (N = 5) or secretory (N = 5), simple hyperplasia (N = 11), complex hyperplasia (N = 9), atypical hyperplasia (N = 8) and adenocarcinoma (N = 25), consisting of endometrioid adenocarcinoma (N = 15), clear cell (N = 7) and serous papillary adenocarcinoma (N = 3). There was no immunostaining for nm23 protein in the 10 cases of normal endometria and in the 28 cases of endometrial hyperplasia.

Many malignant neoplasms have been shown to induce neovascularization. We asked whether it is possible to characterize ovarian epithelial tumors on the basis of vascularization and whether vascularization can be used to differentiate between benign and malignant neoplasms.

Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) are loops of DNA that transcribe to ribosomal RNA. We used histochemical staining of NORs for 78 sections of endometrial tissue, obtained either from curettage or from hysterectomy specimens (normal endometrium 14, simple hyperplasia 10, complex hyperplasia 18, atypical hyperplasia 8 and adenocarcinoma 28). There was a significant positive correlation between mean AgNOR counts and the degree of hyperplasia.

Inhibition of random and leucoattractant-induced migration was observed at drug concentrations of greater than 1 X 10(-6) M and 1 X 10(-5) M respectively. Benoxaprofen per se was not leucotactic but was pro-oxidative in that it stimulated PMNL hexose-monophosphate shunt activity, chemiluminescence, myeloperoxidase-mediated iodination reactions and degranulation.

Ten patients with definite or classic rheumatoid arthritis were assessed before beginning drug therapy, using standard clinical criteria and serological tests of disease activity. These tests were repeated monthly during treatment with benoxaprofen for a period of 6 months.

The ingestion of benoxaprofen 600 mg also resulted in a significant reduction of MNL migration, while co-incubation of control PMNLs with 25% heat-inactivated serum from healthy subjects resulted in a very significant inhibition of PMNL motility. Serum IgG levels also dropped significantly after benoxaprofen ingestion.
