Backgrounds/aims: Ambulatory laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is increasingly recognized for its advantages over the inpatient approach, which advantages include cost-effectiveness and faster recovery. However, its acceptance is limited by patient concerns regarding safety, and the potential for postoperative complications. The study aims to compare the operative and postoperative outcomes of ambulatory LC versus inpatient LC, specifically addressing patient hesitations related to early discharge.

Introduction And Importance: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) offer a suitable means to assess the cognitive domain of learners with a high degree of objectivity. The study's objective is to formulate an equation for determining the ideal timing for MCQ examinations, thereby inspiring the development of a model to estimate the duration of these examinations.

Methods: The authors generated a specific computer program that integrated with the operating system of the examination.

The earliest and most accurate detection of the pathological manifestations of hepatic diseases ensures effective treatments and thus positive prognostic outcomes. In clinical settings, screening and determining the extent of a pathology are prominent factors in preparing remedial agents and administering appropriate therapeutic procedures. Moreover, in a patient undergoing liver resection, a realistic preoperative simulation of the subject-specific anatomy and physiology also plays a vital part in conducting initial assessments, making surgical decisions during the procedure, and anticipating postoperative results.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) causes inflammation and neuronal degeneration, resulting in functional movement loss. Since the availability of SCI treatments is still limited, stem cell therapy is an alternative clinical treatment for SCI and neurodegenerative disorders. Human umbilical cord Wharton's jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hWJ-MSCs) are an excellent option for cell therapy.

Gallbladder volvulus is an uncommon condition that mostly affects older women. The cause of gallbladder volvulus is unknown, although intraoperative evidence of a floating gallbladder with a twisting of its pedicle, resulting in gallbladder ischemia, may lead to subsequent complications. Gallbladder volvulus symptoms are similar to acute cholecystitis, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment.

Corneal epithelium, the outmost layer of the cornea, comprises corneal epithelial cells (CECs) that are continuously renewed by limbal epithelial stem cells (LESCs). Loss or dysfunction of LESCs causes limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) which results in corneal epithelial integrity loss and visual impairment. To regenerate the ocular surface, transplantation of stem cell-derived CECs is necessary.

The gallbladder volvulus is a rare entity of acute abdomen and a life-threatening condition that requires urgent surgery. The etiology of gallbladder volvulus is still unclear, and there is intraoperative evidence of a floating gallbladder that leads to a twisting of its pedicle, thus causing gallbladder ischemia and necrosis. Gallbladder volvulus is more frequently encounter in elderly females.

The incidence of liver cancer has grown in the past decade, with 905,677 new cases and 830,180 deaths in 2020. According to the highest annual fatality ratio, liver cancer is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Surgical resection is the mainstay treatment for long-term survival.

Background: Fluorescent cholangiography (FC) during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is a novel method to facilitate real-time visualization of extrahepatic biliary structures that avoiding risk of bile duct injury. Aims of this study are to investigate the feasibility and the safety of FC during LC.

Method: We evaluated the outcomes of FC during elective LC at our hospital from August 2017 to April 2018.

Accurate localization and analyses of functional liver segments are crucial in devising various surgical procedures, including hepatectomy. To this end, they require the extraction of a liver from computed tomography, and then the identification of resection correspondence between individuals. The first part is usually impeded by inherent deficiencies, as present in medical images, and vast anatomical variations across subjects.

Segmenting a liver and its peripherals from abdominal computed tomography is a crucial step toward computer aided diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Despite the recent advances in computing methods, faithfully segmenting the liver has remained a challenging task, due to indefinite boundary, intensity inhomogeneity, and anatomical variations across subjects. In this paper, a semi-automatic segmentation method based on multivariable normal distribution of liver tissues and graph-cut sub-division is presented.

Carcinogenic liver fluke is still an issue of great concern in some countries of Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand, Cambodia, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and Vietnam. The infection, caused by Opisthorchis viverrini, is associated to cholangiocarcinoma and is endemic among human populations for whom raw fish is frequently consumed. Prevention and health education are required.
