Specifically, the microalga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii repositions its mitochondria, depending on the levels of inorganic carbon. Mitochondria are typically randomly distributed in the Chlamydomonas cytoplasm, but relocate toward the cell periphery at low inorganic carbon levels.
