Remote monitoring of medication adherence and patient and industry responsibilities in a learning health system.

A learning health system (LHS) seeks to establish a closer connection between clinical care and research and establishes new responsibilities for healthcare providers as well as patients. A new set of technological approaches in medication adherence monitoring can potentially yield valuable data within an LHS, and raises the question of the scope and limitations of patients' responsibilities to use them. We argue here that, in principle, it is plausible to suggest that patients have a prima facie obligation to use novel adherence monitors.

Patients With Type A Acute Aortic Dissection Presenting With an Abnormal Electrocardiogram.

Background: The electrocardiogram (ECG) is often used in the diagnosis of patients presenting with chest pain to emergency departments. Because chest pain is a common manifestation of type A acute aortic dissection (TAAAD), ECGs are obtained in much of this population. We evaluated the effect of particular ECG patterns on the diagnosis and treatment of TAAAD.

Effect of exercise on heart-rate response to mental stress in teenagers.

Purpose: We sought to determine if an exercise programme of moderate aerobic intensity would decrease the heart-rate response to mental stress in teenagers with normal hearts.

Methods: Mental stress testing (50 arithmetic problems) was performed in student volunteers before and after a 5-week period of rigorous aerobic exercise training of 2.5 h for 5 days/week.
