Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to implement evidence-based reflex criteria for urinalysis (UA) to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use by evaluating the effectiveness of these criteria in predicting positive urine cultures.
  • It analyzed 4,130 urine samples collected between March and May 2020, revealing that 24.6% of samples tested positive, which led to further cultures, with 91% of those cultures yielding positive results.
  • Statistical results showed significant associations between certain UA parameters (like high white blood cell counts and nitrite presence) and positive urine culture outcomes, supporting the effectiveness of the new UA reflex criteria.
