Although relatively rare, neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) represent the most common type of endobronchial tumors in pediatric patients. Their clinical presentation lacks specificity, often leading to delayed diagnosis due to limited clinical suspicion. Mainly classified as low-grade malignant tumors (grade 1), they typically demonstrate favorable outcomes following surgical removal.

Background: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is rarer in children (chILD) than adults, but with increasing diagnostic awareness, more cases are being discovered. chILD prognosis is often poor, but increasing numbers are now surviving into adulthood.

Aim: To characterize chILD-survivors and identify their impact on adult-ILD centers.

Childhood interstitial lung diseases (chILD) are rare and usually severe disorders. Among them, very rare cases of surfactant protein (SP)-B deficiencies have been reported so far and are usually associated with fatal forms of chILD. The RespiRare network allows the collection of precise phenotypic and genotypic information.

Plastic production and plastic pollution have a negative effect on our environment, environmental justice, and climate change. Using detailed global and regional plastics datasets coupled with socioeconomic data, we employ machine learning to predict that, without intervention, annual mismanaged plastic waste will nearly double to 121 million metric tonnes (Mt) [100 to 139 Mt 95% confidence interval] by 2050. Annual greenhouse gas emissions from the plastic system are projected to grow by 37% to 3.

Background: Chronic diseases are a considerable burden to health systems, communities, and patients. Much of this burden, however, could be prevented if interventions effective in reducing chronic disease risks were routinely implemented.

Aims: The aim of this paper is to discuss the role of public health agencies in preventing chronic disease through the application of learning health system (LHS) approaches to improve the implementation of evidence-based interventions.

Article Synopsis
  • - There is a recognized link between migraine with aura (MA) and an increased risk of ischemic stroke, although the exact reasons for this connection are still not fully understood.
  • - Various factors such as decreased blood flow, neurovascular issues, and classic stroke contributors like atrial fibrillation and endothelial dysfunction are explored to explain this risk in people with MA.
  • - Ongoing research aims to clarify the relationship between migraines (including types like migraine without aura) and stroke, potentially using biomarkers to enhance the understanding and treatment of these conditions.

The World Health Organization (WHO) plays an important role in developing evidence-based and ethically sound guidelines to assist health workers, programme managers and policy-makers, particularly in countries with limited capacities to create their own. While the development of these guidelines follows rigorous methods, contextualizing recommendations is often necessary to ensure their applicability, feasibility and acceptability at the country level. The adaptation and adoption of global guidelines should happen in a transparent, systematic and participatory manner to maintain credibility while ensuring the ownership necessary for implementation.

The pathogenic variants in the telomerase reverse transcriptase () gene have been identified in adults with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, while their connection to childhood diffuse lung disease has not yet been described. Within this study, we present a case of a five-month-old, previously healthy infant, with early-onset respiratory failure. The clinical suspicion of diffuse lung disease triggered by cytomegalovirus (CMV) pneumonitis was based on clinical and radiological presentation.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to develop a predictive model for labor dystocia, a complication that can arise during childbirth, as current tools for predicting this risk are lacking.
  • - Researchers focused on nulliparous women giving birth in a Danish hospital, utilizing data from multiple sources to analyze various predictors like maternal age and pre-pregnancy BMI through logistic regression.
  • - The final model, based on 12,445 women and featuring six predictors, showed a 62.3% ability to distinguish between those who experienced labor dystocia and those who did not, indicating potential for further refinement and external validation.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term, symptomatic recovery of healthcare workers from acute COVID-19 infections up to 3 years after the initial COVID-19 outbreak.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed among employees of a community-based healthcare system in Massachusetts who had a recorded positive COVID-19 test. Survey responses were collected between September 2022 and January 2023.

Background: Teachers are recognized as 'key agents' for the delivery of physical activity programs and policies in schools. The aim of our study was to develop and evaluate a tool to assess teachers' capability, opportunity, and motivation to deliver school-based physical activity interventions.

Methods: The development and evaluation of the Capability, Opportunity, and Motivation to deliver Physical Activity in School Scale (COM-PASS) involved three phases.

Background: Children's physical activity and screen time behaviours impact their physical health and well-being. In Australia, less than half of children meet daily physical activity recommendations and only one-third meet daily screen time recommendations. Nearly half a million Australian school children aged 5-12 attend Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) weekly, activities undertaken at OSHC play a key role in meeting these recommendations.

Background: Childhood interstitial lung disease (chILD) encompasses a group of rare heterogeneous respiratory conditions associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Reports suggest that many patients diagnosed with chILD continue to have potentially progressive or fibrosing disease into adulthood. Over the last decade, the spectrum of conditions within chILD has widened substantially, with the discovery of novel entities through advanced genetic testing.

Apoptosis, inflammation, and wound healing are critical pathophysiological events associated with various liver diseases. Currently, there is a lack of in vivo approaches to study hepatocyte apoptosis-induced liver injury and repair. To address this critical knowledge gap, we developed a unique genetically modified mouse model, namely, 3-Transgene (Tg) with inducible Hepatocyte-Specific Apoptosis Phenotype (3xTg-iHAP) in this study.
