Vertical Transmission of Dengue Virus in the Peripartum Period and Viral Kinetics in Newborns and Breast Milk: New Data.

Summary: We investigated 10 mother-newborn pairs and found a 90% rate of dengue virus (DENV) transmission during the perinatal period. Here, we describe DENV kinetics in the sera of newborns before the onset of disease. Of the breast-milk samples analyzed, 75% tested positive for DENV.

Echocardiography allows more accurate placement of peripherally inserted central catheters in low birthweight infants.

Aim: The use of plain radiographs provides limited information on the placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). Moreover, changes in upper extremity positioning cause migration of the catheters in neonates. This study aimed to investigate the use of echocardiography for determining catheter tip position, compared with plain radiographs, in low birthweight (LBW) infants in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit.
