Background And Objectives: In developed countries, where omphalitis has become rare and related mortality nil, benefits of antiseptic use in umbilical cord care have not been demonstrated. We aimed to assess the noninferiority of dry care compared with antiseptics in France where antiseptic use is widespread.
Methods: We conducted a noninferiority, cluster-randomized, 2-period crossover trial, in 6 French university maternity units including all infants born after 36 weeks' gestation.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the safety, tolerance and preventive effect on atopic dermatitis of an experimental α-lactalbumin-enriched and symbiotic-supplemented infant formula. A total of ninety-seven non-breastfed term neonates were enrolled into a double-blind, multicentre, randomised controlled trial in which they received experimental (n 48) or standard formula (n 49) for 6 months. The primary outcome was weight at 6 months of age.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: The standard treatment of neonatal group B Streptococcus infection is intravenous amoxicillin for 10 days. We investigated whether effective serum amoxicillin concentrations could be reached by switching to oral amoxicillin after 48 h of intravenous administration in full-term neonates with group B Streptococcus infection.
Methods: Over 2 years, we included 222 full-term neonates who had early onset group B streptococcal disease responsive to 48 h of intravenous amoxicillin, at which point they were asymptomatic and fed orally.
Two children with severe pneumonia, purulent pleural effusions, and abscess formation unresponsive to appropriate antibiotic therapy recovered promptly after the introduction of linezolid and imipenem association. Linezolid is a new antibiotic with high bioavailability and an outstanding safety profile, synergistic with imipenem, which may deserve a place in the armamentarium for severe pneumonia in children.
