Background: Suspicious tumors of the lung require specific staging, intraoperative detection, and histological confirmation. We performed an intrathoracic, intraoperative contrast-enhanced ultrasound (Io-CEUS) for characterization of lung cancer.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data on the application of Io-CEUS in thoracic surgery for patients with operable lung cancer.
Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are benign vascular anomalies prone to pain, bleeding, and progressive growth. AVM are mainly caused by mosaic pathogenic variants of the RAS-MAPK pathway. However, a causative variant is not identified in all patients.

Objective: A convolutional neural network (CNN) was evaluated for differentiation of peripheral vascular malformations (VMs) on T2-weighted short tau inversion recovery (STIR) MRI.
Methods: 527 MRIs (386 low-flow and 141 high-flow VMs) were randomly divided into training, validation and test set for this single-center study.
Extracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are regarded as rare diseases and are prone to complications such as pain, bleeding, relentless growth, and high volume of shunted blood. Due to the high vascular pressure endothelial cells of AVMs are exposed to mechanical stress. To control symptoms and lesion growth pharmacological treatment strategies are urgently needed in addition to surgery and interventional radiology.

Material And Methods: 10 pediatric patients prior to and after sclerotherapy were scanned by an experienced examiner using handheld ultrasound (Vscan AirTM) and high-end ultrasound (LOGIQ E9/E10) as reference. Patients with associated venous thromboses and intralesional aneurysms had been excluded.
Orbital floor fractures (OFFs) are common injuries of the midface and may result in long-term complications. The aim of this study was to compare two restoration materials, PDS foils and titanium meshes, with regards to (1) clinical outcome and (2) reduction in orbital volume. The monocentric discovery cohort was analyzed retrospectively and included 476 patients with OFFs treated between 2010 and 2020.

Preoperative CT and CBCT scans from 2004 to 2019 of OKCs and AMs were analyzed in 51 participants. Lesions were three-dimensionally (3D) assessed and Hounsfield units (HU) as well as gray scale values (GSV) were quantified.

The location, size, and intraoperative frozen section result of SPNs are decisive regarding the extent of lung resection. This feasibility study investigates the technical applicability of intraoperative contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (Io-CEUS) in minimally invasive thoracic surgery.

Regarding this, precise diagnostics including multimodal assessment by mammography, sonography, and MRI, including image-guided biopsy and localization procedures, is often decisive and must be performed by experts with profound knowledge and skills in all of these procedures. However, due to numerous restructurings, breast imaging has been shifted more and more towards large, specialized centers, resulting in less patient exposition and training opportunities for radiologists in smaller sites.

The Weber-classification, which was developed on the basis of phlebography in the 1990s, is the only existing classification system for this rare disease. Aim of this study was the structured characterization of the lateral marginal vein (MV) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and evaluation of the applicability of the Weber-classification.

We aimed to evaluate modern shear-wave elastography (SWE), SWD and ATI for the assessment of hepatic steatosis.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the US data of 15 patients who underwent liver USs and MRIs for the evaluation of parenchymal disease/liver lesions.
Orbital floor fractures represent a common fracture type of the midface and are standardly diagnosed clinically as well as radiologically using linear measurement methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of diagnostic measurements of isolated orbital floor fractures based on two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) measurement techniques. A cohort of 177 patients was retrospectively and multi-centrically evaluated after surgical treatment of an orbital floor fracture between 2010 and 2020.

Computed tomography and coronary angiography revealed pseudoaneurysm formation at the anastomotic site causing aortic pseudostenosis. Due to severe calcification of the graft inclusion surrounding the ascending aorta, we performed a redo ascending aortic replacement using a two-circuit cardiopulmonary bypass to avoid deep hypothermic cardiac arrest.

Methods: From June of 2020 to May of 2021, 30 patients (19 women, 11 men) with clinically diagnosed unilateral synkinesis underwent evaluation with HRUS.
Purpose: Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) as rare diseases are diagnostically and therapeutically challenging. Due to the limited evidence regarding treatment outcome, prospective data are needed on how different treatment regimens affect outcome. The aims of this prospective trial are to determine effectiveness, safety, and clinical outcome of multimodal treatment in patients with extracranial AVMs.

Methods: From February 2020 to April 2021, our complete ultrasound examination protocol was carried out on clinically evident malignant lymph nodes of histologically proven HNSCC in the pre-therapeutic setting.
Results: A total of 13 patients were eligible for analysis.
Background: Synkinesis of the facial musculature is a detrimental sequalae in post-paralytic facial palsy (PPFP) patients. Detailed knowledge on the technical requirements and device properties in a high-resolution ultrasound (HRUS) examination is mandatory for a reliable facial muscle assessment in PPFP patients. We therefore aimed to outline the key steps in a HRUS examination and extract an optimized workflow schema.

Aim: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and potential time savings using automatic rib segmentation and a curved, unfolded view for the detection of rib fractures in trauma patients. Methods: The multidetector computed tomography raw data of 101 consecutive polytrauma patients (72 men; mean age 45 years, age range 17 to 84 years) admitted to a university hospital were retrospectively post-processed to generate a curved, unfolded view of the rib cage.

The following study evaluates decisive factors for a successful microvessel examination conducted by the microsurgeon.
Methods: Technical knowledge presented in this study was based on a series of more than 200 perforator flaps planned with CCDS.
Purpose: Comparison of puncture deviation and puncture duration between computed tomography (CT)- and C-arm CT (CACT)-guided puncture performed by residents in training (RiT).

Prior to the experiments, the RiT's level of training, experience playing a musical instrument, video games, and ball sports, and self-assessed manual skills and spatial skills were recorded.
The superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator (SCIP) flap is a well-documented, thin, free tissue flap with a minimal donor site morbidity, and has the potential to become the new method for resurfacing moderate-size skin defects. The aim of this study is to describe an easy, reliable, systematic, and standardized approach for preoperative SCIP flap design and perforator characterization, using color-coded duplex sonography (CCDS). A list of customized settings and a straightforward algorithm are presented, which are easily applied by an operator with minimal experience.
