Article Synopsis
  • The article presents data from research on the proteome of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in dairy cows during their transition period, which is poorly understood.
  • It examines how different types of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation (like flaxseed oil and fish oil) can affect immune function during this critical time.
  • The study identifies significant differences in protein abundance in PBMCs after supplementation, contributing valuable insights into the immune response in postpartum dairy cows.

We examined the effects of dietary n-3 fatty acids on the proteome of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in transition dairy cows. Forty-two dry cows were divided into three groups supplemented with: saturated fat (CTL); flaxseed oil (FLX); or fish oil (FO). PBMC were collected from five cows per group at week 1 postpartum for proteomic analysis.

This article contains raw and processed data related to research published by Takiya et al. [1]. Literature have shown that treatment with the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent sodium salicylate () during the first days postpartum in dairy cows increased lactation performance [2], and tended to alter glucose metabolism [3].
