Atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements of dihedral angles are conducted for the first time to characterize the ratio of the twin-boundary energy (γΤ) to the surface free energy (γS). In plane, twin morphology is measured with AFM, verified by scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, and found to be consistent. The chemical composition and homogeneity of annealed Cu10 wt%Zn sample are confirmed by energy-dispersive spectroscopy.

Recurrent herpes simplex labialis caused predominantly with herpes simplexvirus 1(HSV-1) is a major problem, for which various treatments have minimal impact. Given the important role of the immune system in controlling virus infection, an activation of virus-specific immune responses, in particular,using dendritic cell (DCs) vaccines, seems to be a promising approach for the treatment of patients with frequent recurrences of herpes labialis. The current paper presents the results of a pilot study of the safety and efficacy of DC vaccines in 14 patients with recurrent HSV-1 infections.

Our objective was to evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of autologous M2 macrophage transplantation in nonacute stroke patients. We also evaluated whether the intrathecal administration of macrophages influences the production of cytokines by peripheral blood cells and whether the levels of cytokines correlate with stroke severity and responsiveness to cell therapy. In this study, 13 patients (12 males and 1 female with a median age of 63 years) diagnosed with ischemic (n = 10) or hemorrhagic (n = 3) stroke were subjected to cell transplantation therapy (study group).
