A new class of ocular steroids designed to mitigate steroid-induced intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation while maintaining anti-inflammatory activity was developed. Herein is described the discovery and preclinical characterization of ROCK'Ster compound . Codrugs consisting of a Rho kinase inhibitor (ROCKi) and a corticosteroid were synthesized.

Long-acting (LA) HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) offers the potential to improve adherence by lowering the burden of daily or on-demand regimens of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs. This paper details the fabrication and in vitro performance of a subcutaneous and trocar-compatible implant for the LA delivery of tenofovir alafenamide (TAF). The reservoir-style implant comprises an extruded tube of a biodegradable polymer, poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), filled with a formulation of TAF and castor oil excipient.

The unequal reactivity of the two isocyanate groups in an isophorone diisocyante (IPDI) monomer was exploited to yield modified cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) with both urethane and isocyanate functionality. The chemical functionality of the modified CNCs was verified with ATR-FTIR analysis and elemental analysis. The selectivity for the secondary isocyanate group using dibutyl tin dilaurate (DBTDL) as the reaction catalyst was confirmed with (13)C NMR.

Chitin is the second most abundant biopolymer in nature and has tremendous potential in renewable materials for packaging, energy storage, reinforced composites, and biomedical engineering. Despite attractive properties, including biodegradability, antibacterial activity, and high strength, chitin is not utilized widely due to strong molecular interactions, which make solubilization and processing difficult. We report a high pressure homogenization route to produce pure chitin nanofibers (ChNFs) starting with a mildly acidic aqueous dispersion of purified crab α-chitin.
