The pathogen Listeria monocytogenes is a facultative intracellular bacterium, which targets a large range of cell types. Following entry, bacteria disrupt the invasion vacuole and reach the cytoplasm where they replicate and use the actin cytoskeleton to propel themselves from cell to cell.
