Introduction: Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) exhibit autonomic dysfunction, which contributes to reduced work capacity. The metaboreflex produces exercise-induced sympathoexcitation and can be assessed via post-exercise muscle ischemia (PEMI). Blunted sympathoexcitation is common in individuals with DS and contributes to the physiological basis for reduced work capacity observed this population, but the influence of the metaboreflex is unknown.

Background: In 8 females, 1 will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Although medical advances have increased the likelihood of survival, up to 90% of females will gain weight during and after treatment increasing the risk of breast cancer recurrence and obesity-related comorbidities in survivorship. Behavioral lifestyle interventions focused on diet with or without physical activity can provide breast cancer survivors nonpharmacological options to decrease weight gain and cardiometabolic risk.

The acute reduction in peripheral arterial stiffness during reactive hyperemia is assumed to be flow-mediated; however, the mechanism remains unproven. We hypothesized that restricting the blood flow increase during reactive hyperemia would abolish the reduction in peripheral arterial stiffness.
