Tumor cells trigger angiogenesis through the expression of angiogenic factors. Vasohibins (VASHs) are a family of peptides that regulate angiogenesis. Flavonoids have antiproliferative antitumor properties; however, few studies have highlighted their antiangiogenic potential.

Background: The objective of the current study was to determine whether overnight pulse oximetry in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is prognostic of the onset of awake respiratory failure and hospital admissions.

Methods: This was an observational study in a cohort of subjects with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The study included subjects with a baseline [Formula: see text] ≥ 94% on home overnight pulse oximetry testing.

Fourth generation polyamidoamine dendrimer (PAMAM, G4) modified with fluorescein units (F) at the periphery and Pt nanoparticles stabilized by L-ascorbate were prepared. These dendrimers modified with hydrophobic fluorescein were used to achieve self-assembling structures, giving rise to the formation of nanoaggregates in water. The photoactive fluorescein units were mainly used as photosensitizer units in the process of the catalytic photoreduction of water propitiated by light.

A Cu(i) complex {[Cu(biq)]ClO-biq} with biq = 2,2'-biquinoline was prepared, fully characterized and its properties compared with those of the well-known [Cu(biq)]ClO complex. The crystal structures were obtained for both complexes (crystal structure for [Cu(biq)]ClO has not been previously reported). Complex [Cu(biq)]ClO crystallizes as a racemate where each enantiomer has a different τ value while compound {[Cu(biq)]ClO-biq} crystallizes as a non-chiral supramolecular aggregate with an uncoordinated biq molecule forming a π-π stacking interaction with a coordinated biq.

This review was based on a literature search of PubMed and Scielo databases using the keywords "quercetin, rutin, isoquercitrin, isoquercitin (IQ), quercetin-3-glucoside, bioavailability, flavonols and favonoids, and cancer" and combinations of all the words. We collected relevant scientific publications from 1990 to 2015 about the absorption, bioavailability, chemoprevention activity, and treatment effects as well as the underlying anticancer mechanisms of isoquercitin. Flavonoids are a group of polyphenolic compounds widely distributed throughout the plant kingdom.

Aged and adult populations have differences in the structural, biological, and healing properties of skin. Comparative studies of healing under the influence of retinoids in both these populations are very important and, to the best of our knowledge, have not been performed to date. The purpose of this study was to compare the activities of topical tretinoin in aged and adult animal models of wound healing by secondary intention.

Two new coumarin-based "turn-off" fluorescent probes, (E)-3-((3,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)amino)-7-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (BS1) and (E)-3-((2,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)amino)-7-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (BS2), were synthesized and their detection of copper(II) and iron(III) ions was studied. Results show that both compounds are highly selective for Cu²⁺ and Fe³⁺ ions over other metal ions. However, BS2 is detected directly, while detection of BS1 involves a hydrolysis reaction to regenerate 3-amino-7-hydroxycoumarin (3) and 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde, of which 3 is able to react with copper(II) or iron(III) ions.

The present study aims to identify differences between left and right colon adenocarcinoma arising from identical clonal cell and to find out if microenvironment has any influence on matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2), p53 and β-catenin tumor expressions. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Rats (RNU) were submitted to cecostomy to obtain the orthotopic model of right colon tumor (n = 10), while for the left colon model (n = 10), a colon diversion and distal mucous fistula in the descending colon was used.

Purpose: Oxidative DNA damage is one of the mechanisms associated to initial colorectal carcinogenesis, but how it interacts with β-catenin, an adherence protein related to cancer evolution, is not clear. This study investigates the relationship between oxidative DNA damage and β-catenin expression in normal mucosa and colon tumor tissue (adenoma and adenocarcinoma) in colorectal adenocarcinoma evolution.

Method: One hundred and 13 samples were studied.

Aim: To investigate the relationship between beta-catenin and E-cadherin tissue quantitative expression (content) in tumors and clinical prognostic factors in patients with left colon cancer.

Material And Methods: Twenty nine patients with colon adenocarcinoma located distal to the splenic flexure were studied. Diagnosis and histological variables related to adenocarcinoma prognosis were evaluated using hematoxylin-eosin.
