Preliminary tests of redroot pigweed extract against leukemia and various human phatogenic microorganisms revealed that amaranth extract inhibits the viability and proliferation of NB4 cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner and has an excellent anti-bacterial effect on gram-positive bacteria and Candida fungi. Interestingly, the anti-luekemia effects of redroot pigweed is reported for the first time.
