Documenting challenges in achieving rabies elimination by 2030 in low-middle income countries; a Kenyan case study from Lamu County, 2020-2022: mixed methods approach.

Background: Kenya launched a Rabies Elimination Strategy in 2014, aiming to end human rabies deaths by 2030. In March 2022, Lamu County reported increased cases of human dog bites and suspected rabies deaths to the Ministry of Health (MoH). We aimed to establish the extent of the rabies outbreak in humans and animals and determine the challenges to achieving rabies elimination by 2030.

Risk factors for poor treatment outcomes among opioid-dependent clients taking methadone in Mombasa, Kenya.

The Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) program has been proven to be beneficial in reducing illicit opioid use, increasing access to and retention of HIV treatment and other therapies, and reducing HIV transmission, and other drug-related morbidities and mortalities. However, determinants of treatment retention and outcomes for opioid-dependent persons accessing MMT in Kenya are limited. We sought to identify factors contributing to poor treatment outcomes among opioid-dependent persons enrolled in the Mombasa MMT program, between 2017 and 2019.
