Purpose: To develop United States (US) standards for survivorship care that informs (1) essential health system policy and process components and (2) evaluation of the quality of survivorship care.

Methods: The National Cancer Institute and the Department of Veterans Affairs led a review to identify indicators of quality cancer survivorship care in the domains of health system policy, process, and evaluation/assessment. A series of three virtual consensus meetings with survivorship care and research experts and advocates was conducted to rate the importance of the indicators and refine the top indicators.

Purpose: A multidisciplinary panel of experts convened to review the early effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer care in the United States as part of a symposium convened by the National Cancer Policy Forum in July 2021.

Methods: Representatives from the cancer care community, patients, infection prevention, and a government agency provided insight into key elements of the response to and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer care in the United States in 2020.

Results: Multiple stakeholders worked quickly to adapt to provide seamless care to cancer patients with considerable success despite the profound uncertainties that faced us in the early days of the pandemic.

The workshop brought together diverse stakeholders (patients, advocates, academicians, clinicians, research funders, and policymakers) to review progress and ongoing challenges since the Institute of Medicine (IOM)'s seminal report on the subject of adult cancer survivors published in 2006. According to the neurocognitive framework for regulation expectation, adaptively regulating emotions in anticipation of a stressful event should help individuals deal with the stressor itself. The goal of this study was twofold: first, the authors compared the influence of adaptive versus maladaptive anticipatory emotion regulation (ER) on the autonomic system during anticipation of, confrontation with, and recovery from a stressor; second, they explored whether trait rumination moderated this relationship. Human beings have a basic need for esteemed social connections, and receiving negative self-evaluative feedback induces emotional distress. The aim of the current study is to measure eye movements (a physiological marker of attention allocation) and pupillary responses (a physiological marker of cognitive and emotional processing) as online and objective indices of participants' reaction to positive/negative social evaluations from the same or opposite sex. The analysis and management of MS data, especially those generated by data independent MS acquisition, exemplified by SWATH-MS, pose significant challenges for proteomics bioinformatics. The large size and vast amount of information inherent to these data sets need to be properly structured to enable an efficient and straightforward extraction of the signals used to identify specific target peptides. Standard XML based formats are not well suited to large MS data files, for example, those generated by SWATH-MS, and compromise high-throughput data processing and storing.

Unlabelled: Mass spectrometry-based proteomics can generate highly informative datasets, as profile three-dimensional (3D) LC-MS data: LC-MS separates peptides in two dimensions (time, m/z) minimizing their overlap, and profile acquisition enhances quantification. To exploit both data features, we developed 3DSpectra, a 3D approach embedding a statistical method for peptide border recognition. 3DSpectra efficiently accesses profile data by means of mzRTree, and makes use of a priori metadata, provided by search engines, to quantify the identified peptides.

A critical challenge in the development of new molecularly targeted anticancer drugs is the identification of predictive biomarkers and the concurrent development of diagnostics for these biomarkers. Developing matched diagnostics and therapeutics will require new clinical trial designs and methods of data analysis. The use of adaptive design in phase III trials may offer new opportunities for matched diagnosis and treatment because the size of the trial can allow for subpopulation analysis.

In this work, we focus on the management of LC-MS data, which are typically made available in standard XML-based portable formats.
