Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease associated with inflammation and destruction of bone and cartilage. Although inhibition of TNFα is widely used to treat RA, a significant number of patients do not respond to TNFα blockade, and therefore there is a compelling need to continue to identify alternative therapeutic strategies for treating chronic inflammatory diseases such as RA. Regulation of the angiopoietin-Tie ligand-receptor system with a novel splice variant of Tie1 reduces the severity of murine arthritis.

Objectives: To determine the function of the angiopoietin (Ang)-Tie ligand-receptor system, and to assess the effect of Tie1-751, a naturally occurring extracellular domain of the Tie1 receptor derived by alternative splicing, in an in vivo model of RA.

Methods: In the murine CIA model, expression of endogenous Ang1, Ang2, Tie1 and Tie2 in whole paws was analysed by quantitative RT-PCR. To assess the effect of inhibition of the Ang-Tie axis, Tie1-751 was expressed and fused to the Fc fragment of human IgG1.

Regulation of growth and survival of activated T cells by cell-transducing inhibitors of Ras.

We describe the development of cell-penetrating inhibitors of Ras and study their ability to inhibit T cell activation. The inhibitors transduced T cells in a time and concentration-dependent manner and interacted with endogenous Ras. Anti-CD3/CD28-activated cells when treated with the inhibitors, exhibited a notable reduction in cell size, diminished proliferative capacity, and were more prone to apoptosis.

Sinonasal neuroendocrine carcinoma: a case report.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) is rare. We report a case of probable sinonasal NEC in a 73-year-old man who had presented with a history of right nasal obstruction, nasal discharge, and recurrent epistaxis.
