In this study, we synthesized new 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinolines and 6,7,8,9-tetrahydrothieno[2,3-c]isoquinolines based on 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl moiety as expected anticancer and/or antioxidant agents. The structure of all synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectral date (FT-IR, H NMR, C NMR) and elemental analysis. We evaluated the anticancer activity of these compounds toward two cell lines: A459 cell line (lung cancer cells) and MCF7 cell line (breast cancer cells).

Article Synopsis
  • A study using the National Inpatient Sample database analyzed how obesity affects in-hospital outcomes for patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) between 2015 and 2018, dividing 561,535 patients into five BMI subgroups for comparison.
  • The results revealed that obese patients were generally younger and experienced longer lengths of stay in the hospital compared to those with a lower BMI, who had the highest rates of mortality and complications.
  • This analysis supports the "obesity paradox," suggesting that patients with a BMI of 30-40 kg/m had better outcomes than those with a lower body weight, indicating a need for further research to understand the underlying mechanisms.

Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) is frequently utilized to evaluate patients who present to the emergency department with chest pain for a pulmonary or aortic disease but is not routinely used to evaluate for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Decreased myocardial enhancement in non-electrocardiogram-gated contrast-enhanced CT has been proposed to indicate AMI. These two cases highlight the importance of carefully evaluating the myocardium for perfusion defects on non-gated chest CT scans in patients suspected of having AMI.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) is characteristically associated with left ventricular apical ballooning and regional wall motion abnormalities that predispose to the formation of left ventricular (LV) thrombi and subsequent thromboembolic events (VTE). There is limited data about the risk factors of developing stroke in the absence of LV thrombi in patients with TCM. Identify risk factors that predispose patients with TCM to develop VTE and stroke.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare but more frequently recognized cause of acute coronary syndrome. Due to the low incidence rate of this condition, there are no consensus guidelines to treat this clinical entity. Most of the information on the clinical presentation and management of SCAD originates from case reports and series; however, there has not been yet a prospective randomized study to guide treatment of SCAD.
