Background: The primary perioperative concern during laparoscopic myomectomy is the risk of significant intraoperative blood loss, which can lead to hypovolemia, necessitate blood transfusion, and result in postoperative anemia. To address this issue, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the impact of temporarily clamping the uterine and utero-ovarian arteries on operative blood loss during laparoscopic myomectomy.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search across various databases to identify eligible clinical trials from inception to May 2024, focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Objective: Both Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and Trans-arterial Chemoembolization (TACE) are now being widely used to treat advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and can improve tumor local control rates. We aimed at evaluating the efficacy and toxicity of combining SBRT and TACE in comparison to TACE alone in unresectable HCC.
Methods: 42 unresectable Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage B HCC Child Pugh (CP) A patients were randomized to receive either: TACE alone (Arm A) or TACE followed by SBRT (Arm B).
This article presents the results of an experimental investigation into the effect of process parameters in the precision hard turning of Ti-6Al-4V on chip morphology at both macro and micro levels. It also reports on the control of chip generation to improve chip evacuation and breakability at the macro level by varying the process parameters, namely, feed rate, cutting speed and depth of cut during turning tests. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to examine the chips produced for a better understanding of chip curling mechanisms at the micro level.

Arterio-portal fistula "APF" is an intrahepatic communication between the hepatic arterial system and the portal venous system without any communication with the systemic venous circulation. APF is considered a rare cause of portal hypertension and gastrointestinal bleeding in infancy.

We sought to review our early experience with the treatment of this condition based on a hybrid approach following an aortic multi-disciplinary team meeting involving close cooperation between cardiac surgeons, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, vascular anesthetists, and cardiac anesthetists.

Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) is a novel method for producing ultrafine-grained or nanomaterials. Modeling material design processes provides exceptionally efficient techniques for minimizing the efforts and time spent on experimental work to manufacture Cu or its associated alloys through the ECAP process.

A central composite design of experiment procedure was followed to examine the effects of variable process parameters; feed rate, cutting speed and depth of cut (each at five levels) and their interaction effects on surface roughness and cutting temperature as process responses. The results revealed that cutting temperature increased with increasing cutting speed and decreasing feed rate in both conventional and high-speed machining.

Substances that do not degrade over time have proven to be harmful to the environment and are dangerous to living organisms. Being able to predict the biodegradability of substances without costly experiments is useful. Recently, the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models have proposed effective solutions to this problem.

Potato and apple samples were examined as model heat-sensitive products in this study. Results indicate that the coating material containing both alginic acid and polygalacturonic acid causes higher water loss of about 17% and 7.

A Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to simulate the chipping process of the stainless steel but with only a restricted number of process parameters. A set of turning tests was carried out using tungsten carbide tools under similar cutting conditions to validate the results obtained from the FEM for the chipping process and at the same time to experimentally examine the generated surface roughness.

From the economic and environmental protection points of view, utilization of waste frying oil for the production of biodiesel addresses very beneficial impacts. Production of higher yield of biodiesel is a challenging process in order to commercialize it with a lower cost.

INTRODUCTION Rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm is a surgical emergency. In order to improve operative outcomes, vascular services have been centralised in the United Kingdom. This means that a patient may present to a hospital with a ruptured aneurysm, but require transfer to a vascular centre for definitive treatment.

Methods: We conducted two sub-studies. We included the patients seen on the Cornea Service of the Wills Eye Hospital from January 2008 to August 2012.
Background: There is no consensus on the most appropriate technique to diagnose vascular calcification in chronic kidney disease. This is primarily because of the absence of direct comparisons of predictive values of the various calcification scores, especially outside the coronary vascular beds, to detect clinical outcomes.
Methods: We included 93 haemodialysis patients and performed 6 vascular calcification scores: two scores utilised simple X-rays of abdominal aorta and peripheral vessels.
Background: There is an urgent need to identify molecular signatures in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) that may select patients who are likely to respond to molecularly targeted therapies. In this study, we investigate the feasibility of undertaking focused molecular analyses on routine diagnostic biopsies in patients with SCLC.
Methods: A series of histopathologically confirmed formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded SCLC specimens were analysed for epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR), KRAS, NRAS and BRAF mutations, ALK gene rearrangements and MET amplification.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between diabetes mellitus (DM) and keratoconus.
Methods: We conducted 2 substudies: (1) Retrospective comparison of the prevalence of DM in patients with keratoconus with that of control patients without keratoconus and (2) Cross-sectional study of the severity of keratoconus in diabetic keratoconus-affected patients and nondiabetic keratoconus-affected patients. Patients seen at the Wills Eye Hospital Cornea Service from January 2008 to August 2012 were included.
Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis typically affecting multiple organ systems. We report 2 patients who presented with homonymous hemianopia and were ultimately diagnosed with biopsy-confirmed ECD. We review the spectrum of ECD and its treatment as well as histopathological and immunohistochemical differentiation from other histiocytic disorders.

Similar grave outcomes are associated with inflammation and oxidative stress in CKD. Recently, accumulating evidence has linked components of phosphate homeostasis to inflammation and oxidative stress.

Introduction: In the North Trent Cancer network (NTCN) patients requiring retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy for metastatic testicular cancer have been treated by vascular service since 1990. This paper reviews our experience and considers the case for involvement of vascular surgeons in the management of these tumours.
Patients And Methods: Patients referred by the NTCN to the vascular service for retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy between 1990 and 2009 were identified through a germ cell database.
Background: Advanced glycation end-products (AGE) accumulate in CKD and may predispose to cardiovascular disease by inducing inflammatory and oxidant stress in the vascular endothelium. Soluble forms of the receptor for AGE (RAGE) may be protective against these effects by binding AGE in the soluble phase. Accumulating evidence suggests a protective role of soluble RAGE against vascular calcification.
