This study aimed to characterize two types of postbiotics from Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5 prepared in De Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS-Pb) and UF cheese whey (W-Pb). We compared the chemical compositions, functional properties, and toxicities of the prepared probiotics. Assessments included antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, total and individual phenolic compounds, volatile compounds, individual free amino acids, and organic acid contents.

Examining cardiac toxicity in HER2-positive breast cancer patients using trastuzumab and its influencing factors at Iran Hospital.

Trastuzumab is primarily utilized in the treatment of patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) positive breast cancer. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of cardiac toxicity associated with trastuzumab in HER2-positive breast cancer patients at Iran Hospital in 2023, as well as the factors influencing this toxicity. In this cross-sectional study, 200 patients diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer and receiving trastuzumab were included.

Purpose: The diagnosis of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is often challenging in patients who do not present with classic symptoms. Brain MRI can play a pivotal role, as several imaging findings, such as an empty sella appearance (ESA), have been shown to be associated with IIH. Yet, none of the MRI signs have been shown to have a high sensitivity and specificity.

Design and application of an ultrasensitive and selective tobromycin electrochemiluminescence aptasensor using MXene /Ni/Sm-LDH-based nanocomposite.

Using a chemiluminescence reaction between luminol and HO in basic solution, an ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor was developed for the determination of tobramycin (TOB), as an aminoglycoside antibiotic. TiC/Ni/Sm-LDH-based nanocomposite effectively catalyzes the oxidation of luminol and decomposition of HO, leading to the formation of different reactive oxygen species (ROSs), thus amplifying the ECL signal intensity of luminol, which can be used for the determination of TOB concentration. To evaluate the performance of the electrochemiluminescence aptasensor and synthesized nanocomposite, different methods such as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analyses were performed.

Real-life use of tolvaptan in ADPKD: a retrospective analysis of a large Canadian cohort.

Tolvaptan is the first disease-modifying drug proven to slow eGFR decline in high-risk patients with ADPKD. However, barriers from the patient perspective to its use in real-life settings have not been systemically examined in a large cohort. This was a single-center, retrospective study of 523 existing or new patients with ADPKD followed at the Center for Innovative Management of PKD in Toronto, Ontario, between January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018.

P16 Expression in Human Breast Carcinoma and its Relationship to Clinicopathological Parameters.

Background: p16 is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor and a cardinal regulator of the cell cycle. The relationship between p16 overexpression and poor prognosis of breast cancer has been reported in some studies. This study aimed to evaluate p16 expression in breast cancer in comparison to normal breast tissue and determine the association between p16 expression and clinicopathological parameters in breast cancer.

Using age- and height-adjusted total kidney volume, the Mayo Clinic Imaging Classification provides a validated approach to assess the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), but requires excluding patients with atypical imaging patterns, whose clinical characteristics have been poorly defined. We report an analysis of the prevalence, clinical and genetic characteristics of patients with atypical polycystic kidney disease by imaging. Patients from the extended Toronto Genetic Epidemiology Study of Polycystic Kidney Disease recruited between 2016 and 2018 completed a standardized clinical questionnaire, kidney function assessment, genetic testing, and kidney imaging by magnetic resonance or computed tomography.

Ketamine as potential treatment for postpartum depression: A narrative review.

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a severe, debilitating mood disorder with consequences for both mothers and children, highlighting the need for rapid-acting and effective treatments for PPD. The aim of this narrative review is to synthesize the available literature on the administration of ketamine for PPD and propose ketamine as a viable and advantageous treatment.

Methods: A search was conducted on MEDLINE/PubMed, PsycInfo, and Embase databases from inception to October 10, 2021 for preclinical studies, interventional studies (ie, open-label and randomized controlled trials), as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses evaluating the use of ketamine in postpartum populations.
