Background: Percutaneous sacroplasty is an effective treatment for painful sacral fractures and tumours, however there is no accepted optimal technique for performing this procedure. This study investigated a novel approach to sacroplasty combining co-axial sacral access, sequential cement injections and hypothermic cement manipulation to improve cement delivery.

Methods: This retrospective study analysed 11 patients who underwent co-axial sacroplasty between April 2023 and March 2024 for treatment of painful insufficiency fractures ( = 5) or malignant sacral tumours ( = 6).

Fractal analysis is a mathematical tool which allows the evaluation of complex microstructural features within materials that cannot be expressed in traditional geometric terms. The purpose of this study is to quantify the differences in polymethylmethacrylate intravertebral cement spatial distribution patterns following vertebroplasty using fractal analysis through the examination of osteoporotic and malignant compression fractures. Frontal and lateral post-vertebroplasty radiographs were evaluated from 29 patients with osteoporotic and malignant compression fractures who underwent vertebroplasty.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore sex-based differences in patients with glioblastoma to enhance personalized treatment and improve outcomes, focusing on differences in tumor parameters and survival.
  • Data from 1832 patients was analyzed, revealing that women were diagnosed at an older median age and had lower tumor volumes compared to men, who generally had higher performance scores.
  • Despite these differences in tumor characteristics, the research found no significant discrepancies in survival outcomes or mortality rates between sexes, although certain factors like age and treatment type influenced mortality risk for both genders.

MIMO (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) antenna systems are promising for fifth-generation (5G) networks, offering lower latency and higher data rates. These systems utilize millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency bands for efficient transmission and reception of multiple data simultaneously, enhancing overall efficiency and performance. This article presents a compact size, wide band tri-circular ring mmWave MIMO antenna with suitable performance characteristics for next-generation communication systems.

Article Synopsis
  • TMAO and urea are metabolites used by marine animals to regulate cell volume in salty conditions, with urea acting as a denaturant and TMAO serving as a protective osmolyte against this denaturation.
  • The spatial interactions between TMAO, urea, and proteins are crucial, as TMAO can help stabilize proteins by depleting urea from their surfaces.
  • Research using neutron diffraction showed that TMAO effectively removes urea from a tripeptide's surface, enhancing hydrogen bonding in the solution and supporting the idea that TMAO stabilizes proteins in the presence of urea.

Background And Purpose: Interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has been growing in neuroradiology, but there is limited knowledge on how this interest has manifested into research and specifically, its qualities and characteristics. This study aims to characterize the emergence and evolution of AI/ML articles within neuroradiology and provide a comprehensive overview of the trends, challenges, and future directions of the field.

Materials And Methods: We performed a bibliometric analysis of the ; the journal was queried for original research articles published since inception (January 1, 1980) to December 3, 2022 that contained any of the following key terms: "machine learning," "artificial intelligence," "radiomics," "deep learning," "neural network," "generative adversarial network," "object detection," or "natural language processing.

Tarlov cysts were thought to be anatomic variants of uncertain etiology and clinical significance when initially described over 80 years ago. They are often detected in routine lumbosacral imaging and generally not reported in a differential diagnosis. There is increasing evidence that at least some Tarlov cysts are symptomatic and can have a significant adverse impact on patients' health and well-being.

Objective: Although there is substantial clinical evidence on the safety and effectiveness of vertebral augmentation for osteoporotic vertebral fractures, cost-effectiveness is less well known. The objective of this study is to provide a systematic review of cost-effectiveness studies and policy-based willingness-to-pay (WTP) thresholds for different vertebral augmentation (VA) procedures, vertebroplasty (VP) and balloon kyphoplasty (BK), for osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVFs).

Design: A systematic review targeting cost-effectiveness studies of VA procedures for OVFs.

Mobile-health (m-health) is described as the application of medical sensors and mobile computing to the healthcare provision. While 5G networks can support a variety of m-health services, applications such as telesurgery, holographic communications, and augmented/virtual reality are already emphasizing their limitations. These limitations apply to both the Quality of Service (QoS) and the Quality of Experience (QoE).

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an efficient multicarrier scheme that uses different types of guard intervals such as cyclic prefix (CP) and known symbol padding (KSP) (zero padding (ZP), unique word (UW), etc.) in block formation. Among these guard intervals, CP varies for each block, while other guard intervals remain fixed from block to block.

Trimethylamine -oxide (TMAO) and urea are small organic biological molecules. While TMAO is known as a protective osmolyte that promotes the native form of biomolecules, urea is a denaturant. An understanding of the impact of TMAO and urea on water structure may aid in uncovering the molecular mechanisms that underlie this activity.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are low-cost, special-purpose networks introduced to resolve various daily life domestic, industrial, and strategic problems. These networks are deployed in such places where the repairments, in most cases, become difficult. The nodes in WSNs, due to their vulnerable nature, are always prone to various potential threats.

The new 'normal' defined during the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to re-assess how people with special needs thrive in these unprecedented conditions, such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These changing/challenging conditions have instigated us to revisit the usage of telehealth services to improve the quality of life for people with ASD. This study aims to identify mobile applications that suit the needs of such individuals.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM), one of the commonest worldwide metabolic conditions, is believed to be associated with an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants. Sitagliptin is an oral anti-hyperglycaemic drug that blocks dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4). Rutin is a polyphenolic natural flavonoid which has antioxidant and anti-proliferative activity.

Enterocutaneous fistulas (ECFs) are a significant complication of abdominal surgery which present a significant therapeutic challenge for clinicians. Definitive surgical treatment of these fistulas is not without significant risk, which both patients and clinicians would seek to avoid. We present a case of successful treatment of a low output jejunal ECF by percutaneous embolization using an ethiodized oil and n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate glue mixture in a 40-year-old man who developed an ECF after inadvertent jejunostomy tube removal.

Introduction: To test the hypotheses that changes in the aortic pulse-wave produced by arterial stiffening are (1) propagated into cerebral small vessels, (2) associated with reduced compliance of small cerebral arterial vessels, and (3) associated with the presence of dilated perivascular spaces (PVS).

Methods: Fifteen volunteers and 19 patients with late-onset depression (LOD) were prospectively recruited, of which 6 fulfilled the criteria for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Aortic pulse-wave velocity (PWV) was determined using Carotid-Femoral Doppler.
