Land application of composts affects concentration and composition of dissolved organic matter (OM) which plays important roles in soil functioning and may have effects on spreading of environmental pollution. Linking between the composition of bulk compost OM and its water-soluble fraction may, therefore, allow better understanding and prediction of the environmental impact of compost added to soil. The objectives of this study were to (i) examine composition-based links between bulk compost OM and water-extractable OM (WEOM), and (ii) evaluate and quantify selectivity of bulk compost OM dissolution, based on infrared (IR) absorbing functional groups.

NO and SO2 removal by dielectric barrier discharge-photocatalyst (DBD-P) hybrid process was examined for various conditions of process variables. Alumina beads were coated with TiO2 thin film by a rotating cylindrical PCVD reactor and they were packed inside the cylindrical reactor. The NO and SO2 removal efficiencies can be enhanced by using a combination of dielectric barrier discharge and photodegradation by TiO2.

Functional state of the system involved in biotransformation of xenobiotics in animal liver tissue was studied under conditions of combined chemical contamination of atmospheric air and water simulating the typical real loading. The model loading studied caused in some cases an induction of the microsomal monooxygenases without activation of UDP-glucuronosyl transferase, but simultaneously with accumulation of malonic dialdehyde; this suggests that metabolic alterations observed may be involved in development of pathology.
