Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) guidelines established in 1992 to decrease preventable under-five child morbidity and mortality, was adopted by Nigeria in 1997. Over 20 years later, while under-five child mortality remains high, less than 25% of first level facilities have trained 60% of community health workers (CHW) who care for sick children with IMCI. This study investigated the impact in CHWs overall adherence to IMCI guidelines, particularly for critical danger signs, as well as usability and feasible following the implementation of THINKMD's IMCI-based digital clinical decision support (CDS) platform.

Herein is described the in silico identification of a putative binding pocket of S100P to identify, synthesize and evaluate novel small molecules with the potential to selectively bind S100P and inhibit its activation of cell survival and metastatic pathways. The virtual screening of a drug-like database against the S100P model led to the identification of over 100 clusters of diverse scaffolds.

Our objective is to describe preliminary results from the first 20months of Kano's direct vaccine delivery operations.
Methods: This is a retrospective review of Kano's direct vaccine delivery program.
Optimum strategies to elicit and maintain antibodies at mucosal portals of virus entry are critical for the development of vaccines against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Here we show in non-human primates that a novel regimen of repeated intravaginal delivery of a non-adjuvanted, soluble recombinant trimeric HIV-1(CN54) clade C envelope glycoprotein (gp140) administered in Carbopol gel can prime for B-cell responses even in the absence of seroconversion. Following 3 cycles of repeated intravaginal administration, throughout each intermenses interval, 3 of 4 macaques produced or boosted systemic and mucosally-detected antibodies upon intramuscular immunisation with gp140 formulated in AS01 adjuvant.

We have investigated the signalling properties of the chemokine receptor, CCR5, using several assays for agonism: stimulation of changes in intracellular Ca(2+) or CCR5 internalisation in CHO cells expressing CCR5 or stimulation of [(35)S]GTPgammaS binding in membranes of CHO cells expressing CCR5. Four isoforms of the chemokine CCL3 with different amino termini (CCL3, CCL3(2-70), CCL3(5-70), CCL3L1) were tested in these assays in order to probe structure/activity relationships. Each isoform exhibited agonism.
