Introduction Through plausible biological mechanisms, periodontitis causes systemic inflammatory burden and response, thus resulting in damage far beyond the oral cavity. Studies have demonstrated periodontitis to be a significant risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke. The larger the quantum of periodontal inflamed tissue, the greater the chances of periodontitis eliciting bacteremia and systemic inflammatory responses.

Background:  Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are frequent in patients having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Despite that, comorbid CVDs receive less guideline-recommended screening in this population compared to others. We aimed to evaluate the cardiac function using echocardiography and to assess spirometry, arterial blood gas (ABG) as well as brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) as prognostic indicators of cardiovascular dysfunction in COPD patients.

Background: Our study aimed to demonstrate the short-term impacts of right ventricular apical pacing (RVAP) and right ventricular septal pacing (RVSP) on left ventricular (LV) regional longitudinal strain (RLS) and global longitudinal strain (GLS) in patients with preserved ejection fraction (EF). LV strain and functions may be altered by RVAP. RVSP might be a better alternative.
