Sublingual misoprostol plus laminaria for cervical preparation before surgical management of late first trimester missed abortions, a randomized controlled trial.

Objective: Comparing the efficacy of low-dose sublingual misoprostol plus laminaria to medium-dose sublingual misoprostol alone for cervical dilation before surgical management of late first trimester missed abortions.

Methods: Randomized, controlled trial evaluated 70 women with missed abortion, admitted for surgical termination of pregnancy. The patients were randomly assigned to receive 200 μg sublingual misoprostol with cervical laminaria (intervention group) or 400 μg sublingual misoprostol without laminaria (control group), four hours before surgical process.

Lack of utility of transabdominal ultrasound in the detection of gastroesophageal reflux disease-induced esophagitis in comparison with endoscopy.

Background: Although upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract endoscopy is the investigation of choice for patients with suspected gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-induced esophagitis, it is associated with complications and significant patient discomfort. The aim of the current study was to compare the accuracy of transabdominal ultrasonography with upper GI tract endoscopy in the detection of GERD-induced esophagitis.

Materials And Methods: In this descriptive study, 350 patients (mean age, 41.
