Background: Children's oral health significantly impacts their overall well-being, daily activities, and social interactions. Dental treatments under general anesthesia are often required for extensive dental problems, special health care needs, or dental phobias, particularly in pediatric populations. The objective of this meta-analysis was to systematically review and synthesize existing research on how dental treatments under general anesthesia affect the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children.

This study aimed to comparatively evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of a universal adhesive to contaminated/non-contaminated dentin when applied with three different protocols. One-hundred-eighty dentin samples were divided randomly into 12 groups (n=15). The groups were created by combining four dentin contamination conditions (non-contaminated or contaminated with blood, hemostatic, or blood+hemostatic) with three application protocols for Single Bond Universal (no-preconditioning or preconditioning with the 35% phosphoric or 1% gallic acid).

This study explored whether the erbium/yttrium/aluminum/garnet (Er:YAG) laser irradiated through the photon-induced photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) method would impact on the resin bonding to pulp chamber dentin when used to activate bleaching and/or postbleaching antioxidant treatment. One hundred five dentin samples prepared from freshly extracted human incisors were randomly assigned to seven groups ( = 15): control (no bleaching/antioxidant); CB (conventional bleaching only); MB (modified bleaching only); CB-NI (conventional bleaching+antioxidant with needle irrigation); MB-NI (modified bleaching+antioxidant with needle irrigation); CB-PIPSI (conventional bleaching+antioxidant with PIPS-activated irrigation); and MB-PIPSI (modified bleaching+antioxidant with PIPS-activated irrigation). Bleaching (40% hydrogen peroxide) lasted for 20 min.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the effectiveness of Er:YAG and Nd:YAG lasers, alongside two dental products (PNH and NPP), in reducing dentin permeability.
  • All treatments resulted in a significant decrease in dentin permeability, with notable changes in surface morphology observed via electron microscopy.
  • While the lasers showed superior performance, the PNH toothpaste could serve as a viable alternative, warranting further clinical research on its effectiveness, possibly in combination with laser therapies.

Background/objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and durability of five different dentin desensitizers (Gluma Desensitizer Powergel, Bifluorid 12, Gluma Self Etch Bond, D/Sense Crystal, Nupro Sensodyne Prophylaxis Paste with Novamin) on tubule occlusion and dentin permeability reduction .

Method: The quantitative changes in permeability of 100 dentin discs were measured after desensitizer treatments and following post-treatments of 6% citric acid challenge for 1 min or immersion in artificial saliva for 24 hours under hydrostatic pressure generated by a computerised fluid filtration meter. Qualitative SEM analyses were also carried out.
