Introduction: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a B-cell lymphoproliferative disease in which the bone marrow microenvironment plays an important role in pathogenesis. The T helper (Th-17) cell plays an important role in the development of cancer by releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-17A and IL-17F. Th-17 cells have been studied in a variety of solid tumors, as well as few hematological malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance.

In hemodialysis patients, scarce data are available on the Treg response to SARS-CoV-2 or its relation to the clinical presentation.
Methods: A cross-sectional study included one hundred patients divided into three groups, thirty SARS-CoV-2-infected hemodialysis patients (COV-HD), and thirty confirmed SARSCoV-2 infected patients (COV), and forty non-infected hemodialysis patients (HD).
Objective: Multiple myeloma is an incurable hematological malignancy. Currently, the use of proteasome inhibitors could be superior to chemotherapy-based regimen in the treatment of this disease. However, resistance to bortezomib combination therapy still occurs in some patients.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) escape from immunosurveillance by immunosuppression. CD200 and CD56 expression represented an independent prognostic factor in many hematological malignancies but its importance in AML patients remains to be identified.
Methods: CD200 and CD56 expression were assessed in the bone marrow blasts for Fifty-two (52) newly diagnosed AML by flowcytometry before start of therapy.
Older adults are mostly affected by chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The present study aimed to evaluate oxidative stress in CLL and to assess its impact on IL-9, Th9 cells levels and prognosis of cases. Seventy Egyptian CLL patients and 15 healthy controls were included.

We aimed to investigate the relationship between circulating and intrahepatic frequency of Th17 cells and IL-17 serum level and degrees of hepatic inflammation and fibrosis in chronic HCV patients, as well as to evaluate the effect of successful anti-viral therapy on these parameters. This nested longitudinal case control study included 30 treatment-naïve chronic HCV patients and 20 healthy individuals as control.

Typing of MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms was done using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) for 100 children with ALL and 100 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. No significant differences were found between patients with ALL and controls for the frequency of MTHFR C677T and A1298C alleles, genotypes, combined genotypes or haplotypes.

To identify complementary markers suitable for further treatment stratification in patients with standard-risk (SR)/philadelphia-negative (Ph-negative) precursor B-ALL, we evaluated the predictive value of minimal residual disease (MRD) after induction and consolidation chemotherapy in strictly defined SR/Ph-negative precursor B-ALL patients who were treated with a standard protocol using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction with the rearranged immunoglobulin heavy chain gene as a molecular marker. The cytologic complete response (CR) rate was 92.

Extracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) functions as a "natural adjuvant" that boosts immune response in the tumor microenvironment. Ectonucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase-1 (CD39/ENTPD1) is the ectonucleotidase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP.

Recent studies suggest a potential impact of Th17 cells on solid tumors but relatively little is known about their contribution in hematological malignancies. The current study was designed to investigate the possible involvement and clinical significance of circulating Th17 cells in acute leukemia.

Inappropriate activation of platelets may be involved in pathogenesis in preeclampsia by promoting coagulation and thrombosis and also as a mediator of inflammation. The exaggerated platelet activation and inflammation leading to endothelial damage in preeclampsia can be explained by the CD40-CD40 ligand (CD40L) system.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPlatelet activation occurs in peripheral blood of patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) and atrial fibrillation (AF) and could be related to abnormal thrombogenesis. The CD40/CD40 ligand (CD40L) which reflects platelet activation, mediate a central role in thrombotic diseases. However, the role of CD40/CD40L system in rheumatic MS with or without AF remains unclear.

Materials And Methods: Screening for CEBPA mutations was assessed using PCR-single-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) in pretreatment bone marrow samples from 55 newly diagnosed adult AML.
Results: CEBPA mutations were found in 11 (20%) of 55 AML patients.
Aim: beta-Thalassemias are widely distributed in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries. Reverse hybridization StripAssay method is reported to be rapid, simple, reproducible and less expensive. The aim of this study is to evaluate reverse hybridization StripAssay method for detection of beta-thalassemia mutations in Egyptian children.

In recent decades, numerous prognostic markers, such as immunoglobulin variable region heavy-chain (IgVH) mutational status, ZAP-70 and the expression of CD38 on leukaemic cells were introduced to screen for patients likely to have progressive course of B-CLL bearing the potential to facilitate risk-adapted treatment strategies. In B-CLL, T cell function is shown to be dysregulated.

Point mutations of the N-RAS gene are the most frequent somatic mutations causing aberrant signal-transduction in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This study was conducted to determine the levels of some of the hemostatic parameters in subjects having metabolic syndrome and to correlate these values with the anthropometric and metabolic variables associated with this syndrome.
Subjects And Methods: The participants were 46 obese nondiabetic subjects, 28 (group 1) who fulfilled the Adult Treatment Panel III criteria of the metabolic syndrome and 18 (group 2) who did not have metabolic syndrome, and a control group of 14 lean subjects (group 3) of matched age and sex.
